...reminded me of the Geelong side in 2002.
Back then, the likes of Ablett, Bartel, Kelly, S.Johnson and Rooke all made their debuts. All five of them are now premiership players. Our defence back then was relatively young too, with Scarlett and Harley entering their 4th or 5th season IIRC.
McKenzie, Scully and Trengove have been extremely impressive so far this year. Your key defenders are pretty young too, and have impressed me a lot as well. Their games on Fevola and Brown a fortnight or so ago were sensational.
Thinking back, our 2002 season started in a similar fashion to the way your season started this year too. We played Essendon in Round 1, who were hell bent on redemption after a poor finish to their previous season and lost by about 50 points, two years after Essendon had won the premiership. You played Hawthorn in Round 1, who were hell bent on redemption after a poor finish to the previous season, and lost by 56 points, two years after Hawthorn won the premiership.
During tonight's telecast, they mentioned some names of players you had missing from tonight's game (Morton, Jurrah, Petterd, Watts and Wonaemirri are the ones I remember). That's a lot of talent there, and particularly young talent.
You guys are certainly on the right path. Would not surprise me one bit if, like Geelong in 2002, you're knocking on the door of the eight come season's end, and playing regular finals football in a few years time, if not sooner.
