read in the paper he was delisted by Brisbane Lions

195cm key defender, and still only 21 next year.

i think he'd be worth a look in the pre-season draft.

thoughts ???

Should be closely looked at in the PSD definitely. I didn't think he looked too bad at Brisbane, but he did lack that skill factor. Very honest, hard-working tall defender that would definitely be worth giving a second chance to.

We may as well give him a shot. Really he's probably better than what we could get with our last pick in the draft.

As it stands we really only have 3 tall backman on our list. (Ryder, Fletcher and Pears)

Even if he's there to provide cover for injury he's worth a shot.

No thanks. His games with Brisbane didn't impress me one bit, looked slow and awkard and lacked skill when he was in possession.

I'm not that keen wasting a pre-season draft pick on him. We're not that desperate..... yet.

Anyway here is what the brisbane board think of him...

The reference to an awkward kicking action are concerning. We could do without another Kepler. However, he is a good size and could play key position in defence for us. Is he worth rookie listing? Or is he just another Austin Lucy?

I'd rather rookie list Andrew Lee then Mills. Probably won't happen, but if I had to choose I'd go Lee over Mills anyday.

I agree, we don't need another Kepler on our hands.

Agree I'd rather re-list Lee (which i think is a big chance)

well, i just discovered Mills is actually younger than Harry Taylor.

can't believe they sacked him because he's not even close to his peak.
he deserves to be on an AFL list next year, whether it be Essendon or another club. i hate seeing players exiting the system at an early age like this. for a 21yr old, he really should be just getting started. and we could certainly use another key defender. Fletcher is getting on, Mal retired, Pears/Hooker/Daniher/etc not quite ready for seniors, Johns/Bradley/Lee all delisted over the last 2 years.

IMO he'd be a worthy addition to our list via the PSD.

To be honest i don't know much about him however my best mate is a Brisbane Lions supporter and every time i would watch the Lions with him, he would cringe and whine every time Mills got the ball, telling me how much of a spud he was and how he shouldn't be in the side.

He deserves to be on an AFL list cause he's young?
No thanks. :thumbsd:

AFL Explained - Past & Present

.mg8 {border-collapse: collapse;margin-left: 1px;}.mg8 td {border: 1px solid #000000;}Understanding the AFL: What you may or may not have known
Is there something about the AFL you didn’t know, don’t understand, a question you’ve always wondered about, a rule you’ve never quite understood, a quirky fact you didn’t even know existed, whether it be how does the ladder work, how have the finals changed, why did something first happen, how did it happen or if your after just the basic explanation of why we do the most basic things, hopefully, here you will find the answer, if not, simply ask the question and we’ll find the answer.

Veteran Players

Under AFL player rules, each club may nominate or list what is called a Veteran Player.
  • In order to be eligible for classification as a Veteran a player must have been the age of 30 as at September 30 in the relevant AFL season and be on the primary list of the AFL club for at least 10 years or in the case of Port Adelaide since the inception of the club.
  • From 2006 there is now no limit on the number of veteran players a club can list, as long as the player meets the required classification.

Rookie Players

  • All clubs can maintain a rookie list of up to six players. Participation at the NAB AFL Rookie Draft is voluntary. A player included on a clubs rookie list cannot play for the club in the AFL except in the Pre-Season competition of if a rookie-listed player is promoted as a long term injury replacement player
  • A rookie player must be 18 (and under 23) before December 31 in the year he is drafted. Sydney & Brisbane can include one or more players on their rookie list during the period between the NAB Pre-Season draft and the NAB Rookie Draft provided the player has resided in NSW or the ACT (in the case of Sydney) or Queensland (in the case of Brisbane) for at least three years before his selection. This encourages Sydney & Brisbane to invest in local players who were not selected at either the NAB AFL Draft or the NAB Pre-Season Draft.
  • A club can retain a maximum of three players on its rookie list for a second season provided it nominates those players at the time of the compulsory list lodgement.

Andrew Lee is only 22, will be 23 on 1 July 2009, so we might be able to rookie him, that way we have depth at the back end of the ground.

the guy cant kick, seems to be another kepler bradley... decent physically but a liability when he has the ball

Thanks for clarifying that. If we can we might as well Rookie list him, cant be any worse than DD this year can he? Plus we haven’t really seen much of him so might be the opportunity to see what he has to offer before throwing him on the scrap heap.

Only thing is, I hear he is more a forward than a backmen, will he just end up like CJohns, KBradley etc and be quite a few deep on the KPF depth chart?

Wayde Mills is definitely a backman. Played all his junior days as a backman, was all australian as a backman but was used by brisbane as a lead up half forward to clear space for J Brown in behind him. Apart from his obvious arkward kicking action he could be a handy soloution to key defense for a while. He is strong, athletic and for a bloke that is 6'4 and runs the beep test inexcese of 15 i think he is well worth a punt, rookie list at worst.

Spent 95 percent of his Lions career playing as a defender for Suncoast, and never really stood out I'm afraid. He's got a great engine and can run all day, but lack of acceleration off the mark simply gives his opponent the advantage they need to get clear, and as has already been mentioned, his kicking is a liability.

Great bloke with a fantastic work ethic but just isn't an AFL standard player. Would love to see him succeed but I wouldn't be betting money on it.

Probably the key. You could work around his kicking if he was your FB but your full back simply has to have some toe off the mark or he will get burnt.
