Wayne Hughes better not stuff up next week. Its well and good having early draft picks all time. But with pick 36,46 and 65 thats when you earn your money.

I just hope we use pick 65 and don't pass on the chance to grab a bottom age player late. Who knows, the alleged brains trust at Richmond might show their hand and declare who they'll take in the PSD.
Then we can dump spud called Wiggins to open up another spot in the PSD.
Wiggins played 13 games in 2007, yet kicked just one goal this year and had more than 20 possessions just once.
He's had enough chances.
I'd rather we give a chance to another untried teenager or even pick Collard in the PSD if we're confident he'll commit fully to AFL. Russell, Edwards, Gibbs and Houla should take Wiggins' spot up forward and rotate through our forwardline. Early selections and kids such as Trotter, Blake, Grima, Pfeiffer, Collard and Willits have been cut, yet Carlton keep giving this doofus another chance when he's a hack.
He turns 26 next year.
It's time.

Fair point you make about delisting him next year to give us at least three picks in that draft, but I don't think he has anything to offer us long term and he's just taking up a spot. I can see Cloke, Ackland, Bannister, Saddington and maybe a couple of younger names will be cut to give us another pick in the 2008 draft. The thing with Wiggins is that they may think that, at least for next year, he has more to offer to the Carlton Football Club, both on and off the field, than any young kid that we can pick up with a pick around 60 in the draft.
We may just delist him next year to get another pick in what is apparently a much stronger draft next year.
i played at marcellin with that bloke, and not only is he quick, he's got smarts as well.Fair point you make about delisting him next year to give us at least three picks in that draft, but I don't think he has anything to offer us long term and he's just taking up a spot. I'd rather grab a quick kid like Zaharakis who isn't eligible for the rookie draft.
Wiggins will fade into the background next year like Teague this year and be on the outer come the midpoint of the season. I can't see him getting a game when Stevens, Murphy, Judd, Hadley, Gibbs, Russell, Grigg, Jackson, Houlihan, Bentick, Anderson and Blackwell are better talents.
I'd rather see Benjamin and Edwards played ahead of Wiggins.
Or what?Wayne Hughes better not stuff up next week.
How many great games has Anderson played? It might still be a bit early to say for certain he's a good pick. Not much different to Austin at this stage. The ones who've been around a little longer Russell, Hartlett, Blackwell don't suggest he's done that well.Joe Anderson at #67 last year was a good pick by Hughes. Even Austin at #35 could turn out to be an inspired pick as well.
Had an average 2007 but showed enough in 2006 to get a 2 year contract so we'd have to pay him out anyway. I'd expect he'll be out at Preston a lot and will have to make the most of every opportunity to get another contract.I just hope we use pick 65 and don't pass on the chance to grab a bottom age player late. If it's just a lottery and all a recruiter needs to do is pick players that play a few senior games, and look reasonably good in them then we may as well not bother with a recruiting manager. You'd hope all our picks will do that. Anyone can pick the top few. It's being able to uncover a player that will go on to play 100 or more games late where they earn their money. But as I said it's way too early to judge Anderson but will Russell, Blackwell & Hartlett play 100 games? No - I have absolutely no hesitation in agreeing that it was a good pick.
The draft is mainly a lottery, so obviously selecting someone with a pick as late as #67, is very hit and miss, and one can be forgiven for thinking that a player picked that late will struggle to ever play a senior game.
The fact that Anderson has already played a few senior games, and has looked reasonably good in them before being forced out of the team with an injury, is enough to warrant the tag of a "good pick".

Sure, he's no Houlihan BWrolleyes
, but Anderson was servicable when he played for Carlton. He did miss quite a few games later in the season with a Hamstring injury.
No, he puts his head over the ball![]()
Or what?![]()
He will get the sack

I didn't realise our little forum was being used by those in power, but it's great to have a line direct to the top.
