Rightly or wrongly we've never been a club to rely on first year players to play a full AFL season.

I see it as a huge positive not reliant, if you look at some of the names it shows they succeed to a certain extent more often than not and some elite players in that lot. Would love to see Milera be able to do that, unfortunately for him small forward will be his starting position and we have two that unless injured will not lose their spots

If Milera debuts in his first season it will be enough to make me happy.

And how many potential top young players have been ruined by being played before their mind and body are fully developed for AFL football....quite a few, one only needs to look at the Demons over the last decade or so for an example.

I'll stick to relying on the coaching staff at the AFC to ascertain whether a player is ready or not for the grind of AFL football in their 1st year not some supporter that's just using it to support his judgement......or should that read lack of judgement!!

The lower clubs are constantly playing their first round picks too early to garnish supporters memberships and build/sell hope

It was good to see St Kilda last year play McCartin in the VFL most of the year .......good coaching

The Crows have never played players too early .......Milera has to be a strong round 1 chance ......too many loud drums beating

Menzel on the other hand, won't surprise me if they start him in the SANFL

Then you should be backing the coaching staffs judgement on Mackay aswell?

I'd be interested in getting thst expanded given you have a source(s) which is where I assume the confidence comes from.

A few weeks ago we hear he can't complete the 2k run, then we hear he doesn't do the 400m run throughs. All this on the back of some hip surgery.

Are you able to share exactly where he is at with his PS program, what he's been doing etc. great news if he is ready to roll r1, just seems optimistic given his PS.

Your exaggerating mate, Menzel did finish the 2k run - a Port stooge suggested he looked stuffed at the finish.

He isn't doing the extra running at the end of training - the 400m run throughs. Managed like some others?

It sounds like he has completed every session though so i cant see why he wouldnt be playing NAB challenge and pushing very hard for a round 1 spot.

In fact if he stays fit and plays NAB I can't see how he misses round 1, his talent will shine through.

Exactly why I was asking the question - hoping TSR can clarify what's been happening with his program and whether these stories are actually fact or fiction - or possibly just a part of how he's being managed

Or maybe the lower clubs play the high draft picks because their experienced players are shit and just won them a spoon or close to it. In terms of a draftee coming in and being a CERTAIN upgrade on an existing player it would be rare at our club with our generally reasonable team and lack of high end draft picks. Throw next year's number 1 into Carltons list and he's probably already going to give you more than a few of this years best 22. It's pretty narrow to suggest it's only about memberships/hope, with rabbles it's also about instant improvement to the team.

anyone who doesn't looked stuffed at the end of a 2k run wasn't trying hard enough.

I think that's irrelevant. There's a base minimum aerobic fitness level required to play at the highest level, even in a forward pocket. Even if you reach the minimum, every degree that you are behind the average of the opposition must be made up by the rest of the group. With limited rotations, there's less luxury for a bust/impact player who can't work into the defensive zone. Obviously, none of us have any idea where he's at with underlying fitness, but being gapped to last over 2km and taking longer to recover, which is of vital importance, doesn't sound like he's close to where the rest of the boys are. He may be uninjured, but that doesn't make him fit. And nor should he neccessarily be. He was hampered all last year, played injured and unfit, we got him cheap because he'd been run down. I doubt our plan is to risk repeating the mistakes of Carlton.

Gee, what a forward line we'll have by 2017. As long as the midfield and backline improve too, it will be raining red, gold and navy blue goals :D

I do believe we are one elite midfielder away from being a top 4 Club which makes our trading season in 2016 very crucial. Im comfortable with where the backline is at and where it will be in another 12 months, forward line goes without saying, but our biggest question mark is the hole left by Danger. With that said, Brouch will go a long way to rectifying that if he can continue the form he showed prior to his injuries.

Yeah than to a lesser degree Thommo retires as well. So much of our list looks primed come 2017-18, but our midfield will be shallow for high end talent. Hopefully Milera bursts on the scene and shows signs to be Wingard/Gray type through the midfield for 2017 onwards. He'll obviously start very much on the outside (wing) and up forward in 2016, but I want/hope to see a capacity to actually play through the centre square by 2017.
