unlucky not to get the medal and not many, if any, of our other players could have collected at pace and roosted the ball over 50 metres - and it never looked like missing - under intense pressure in the disallowed goal

2) This Crow is in All-Australian form

After two months of career-best footy, Wayne Milera has thrust himself firmly into All-Australian contention. Injuries have deprived Milera of some of his prime years, but the silky-skilled defender is back playing with confidence. As cool under pressure as they come and arguably the Crows' best kick, he impressed once more against the Power on Friday night. He was unlucky to have his 50-metre bomb ruled out late in the final term, but two minutes later he won a crucial loose ball at half-back to help set up Brayden Cook's eventual match-winner. - Tom Wyman

What have you got to say in defence of Milera?
ok mate i concede, the nay sayers might have won this one? your thoughts? :)

a tiny, and you must admit humorous, collection of the 98% vitriol on his early-mid form last year and re-signing (credit to some posters inc captain furious, eagleboy and partially dabm for helping defend junior):

What a ****ing joke of a club.

Sack Reid

Watch him switch off now.

The club of the sunk cost fallacy, have to keep signing him through injury and mediocrity to prove they were right all along

This guy sucks.

This club needs to be gutted, so many losers in so many positions.

You just watch, he will get injured. Nothing surer.

delist. don't worry about compo. Just delist him

Putrid. Weak club.

A player who is a fringe type, should be eyeing to replace, but just doing enough in the eye of coaches to play every game. Somehow gets an unnecessarily long contract, then plays years of mediocre football clogging up a valuable spot in the 22

New David Mackay is harsh. Mackay didn't mind a tackle, as ineffective as it was. Milera will just coast next to an opponent and lays a token hand on them as they spring away. Massive softy.

The club is a reflection of the supporter base.

Most pissweak player on the list vs where he was taken/the hype around him being a smooth mover. He is a front runner.

Milera plays the easiest position on the field and we have a plethora of players that could/should be getting a go in that spot.

If you go right back I defended him early on, but it got hard to continue.

Haven't seen the game yet only a snippet where Milera picks up the ball is tackled and dishes it out for lynch or betts for a goal. Was quality work. Guessing he had a quiet night though?

Milera could be a hand model - has beautiful hands

Avoiding contact with the body? Lol did you see two of his hits last night?

Way harsh on Milera, Atkins worse imo. Thought Milera went in hard which has been a criticism of his.

Anyone got the Milera dances from this week and last week?

I’m on the Milera train, he’s got the confidence now that he belongs and can do it. Only onwards and upwards from here.

Trade Milera, nooooooooooooo
Now that’s just a selection from 2/10 pages of my search history on the word “Milera”

Credit to him he’s been sensational this year.

Credit to Milera, it took ten years of persisting through injuries and form slumps, but his last twelve months have been quality and this year in particular has been fantastic. I certainly didn't expect anything close to what he's produced this year.

Hopefully he can maintain it for a few more seasons. We'll need several stars to align all at once if we're going to do anything with this group.

Nice work frogman and appreciate the response. And from memory you never bagged the shit out of Jnr like others calling him a "bag of piss". It was more me giving things TIME which I felt was fair for a talented but incredibly injury prone player who missed 3.5 years out of 5.

I only went back to about page 100 and read for 20 minutes to come up with the above quotes. And I tried to be discreet and not link to specific posters but an entertaining read and some of the biggest supporters of the vitriol are also our "most loved down voters" on here haha

We certainly are a passionate, quite emotional, bunch at times though hey

Thanks mate and again can't recall yiu being vitriolic- despite not being a supporter. It's mainly the hatred (or at least hateful words) I find difficult when we have a clearly skilled (and elite junior) being crueller by injury. How such a player can be so callously labelled and abused by some is hard for me to fathom. Anyway..

Along with Rankine our most skilful player imo. More skilled than Rash for example. His draft year he was looking like a top 3-5 pick for much of the year before (again) health issues.

He would be leading the B&F by SO much right now it ain't funny don't you think?

There’s only a select handful that go down the vitriolic path for labeling players.
I think it’s fine for people to dislike or not support a player but spewing vitriol is unnecessary.

He's having the kind of renaissance that players tend to have after they have left the club. So so glad we persisted. AA trajectory for sure.
Yep, looks a monty as B&F and would have to be about our only player in serious AA discussion at this stage

Injuries have been the number 1 factor that have held him back from multiple AAs. You dont lose your skills, just your confidence and the bodys ability to do it.
I have defended him against the antis throughout, because blind Freddy could see how much talent he has. Everytime he settled in and was playing ripping footy, something else ripped, like his hamstring.

People just have to admit they are too quick to cut people off. Simple as that. He has made alot of people look stupid, which is great to see.
Now of course, he could do his calf and we dont see him for another 12 months, but thats not his fault.

That people don't see the irony in this paragraph

This is what most of us had concerns about

Not his talent

His durability

It even led to the caution at the start of last year

Yeah ten years is way too soon

I wasn't vitriolic, but I was definitely one of those calling for Nankervis to be preferenced ahead of Milera round 1 last year. With Milera, it seemed like we were stuck in an endless cycle of injury, recovery, poor form upon return, then injury again. I knew he was talented and skilful but it felt like he had missed the boat.

I didn't realise he had this kind of form in him, though.

1 thing that can't be overlooked this season is the absence of Hinge and Smith. Both of which are/were massive handball receive guys out of defense. Without both these guys in the line-up Milera has essentially taken the designated kicker out of defense role, almost exclusively. And his teammates are all looking for him now.

I still like Hinge in defense, and look forward to his return, but he'll have to win more of his own footy now. Because based on what Milera is producing, we need to continue to feed him at all times.

What's that old saying? "Get the ball into the good ball users hands". Who would have thought right? Sometimes footy's not that hard!

Alot of people also talked about his form, lets not try to recreate history. I could trawl through people's posts for receipts, but im not looking to single people out or I would have already done it.
And like the previous point, people have been saying this about him for years, not just at year 10.

His form.... not his talent.

And how does form work?
Several ways really, he's never lacked the talent.

Interesting hypothetical.... given we seem to be bringing even some of our talented senior players back through the 2s off shorter injury lay-offs than Wayne had, do you think we'd have seen him play 2s had the new guy been in charge then ??

Thats what people were questioning, and his early season form last year suggested a run in the 2s wouldnt have been a terrible thing.

But by all means continue with this small **** waving thing youve got going on.

Just imagine how agile he would be without those knee injuries.

He was silk the way he got out of trouble yesterday but I think he is playing each game like it's his last.

I think we would have been a great player without the injuries.
