What do you guys think? It's not impossible, we'll have to win all our last 4, and have other results fall our way. Also, a big percentage boost would be handy if we are to get up there. The crows winning today didn't help, cos Sydney has an easier draw, and they are pretty much guaranteed third spot anyway.

I think losing the 3 games to Carlton, Richmond, and the Roos earlier in the year will reall come back to haunt us. If we had at least one of those, then we'd have a genuine chance of top 4 without having to depend on other results going our way.

Our alternate best-case scenario is finishing 5th, Collingwood finishing fourth, losing in the first week, then playing them in week 2 at the MCG (bar a torrential downpour, we'll beat them, mark my words) and then get a preliminary at the G against the Eagles, grand final against Port, watch them choke to death!!! mwahahahah...okay, I'm getting carried away, but it's a nice thought :)

Well its possible.

Would be an amazing thing to happen. Top 4 and we could be in a great position. Dont think it will happen though. If the ladder stays like this we will play WCE in Perth!

The best I think we can finish is 6th.

Collingwood Fans here....Ughhhhh.

Please only post here if you have something good to see. Spamming isn't one of those good things.

To finish 4th, we basically need this to happn:

- Us to win our remaining matches (very possible)

- Sydney to beat Brisbane at the Gabba (very possible going by today's performance in Adelaide)

- West Coast to lose to Geelong at Kardinina Park, and West Coast to lose to the Dockers in round 22 (reasonable chance).

- Port to beat Adelaide in round 22 (likely)

That's pretty much all we need. Fortunately a lot of the current top-5 sides play each other in the last 4 weeks meaning some of them have to lose. If the above results happen, we could sneak into fourth.

I shpould add that I don't think it will happen, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

the way we played against carlton is pretty worrying though
they seem to be complacent, but on this years form, they have no right to be
we should beat the dogs, but i think it's going to be a close, nerve wracking game

Our percentage isn't great, the second-worst of the top 8 sides bar Freo, whom we should finish above anyway. If it was up near the 120 mark, there are other ways to get into the top 4, but as it stands, all of the current top 6 would jostle us out on that basis

Well that can be very possible so I think we would be able to have a great chance. If not 5th or 6th then which would be a pretty good result.

Has anyone had a good look at Round 22... It's going to be a cracker. It will all come down to that weekend.

Adelaide v Port
West Coast v Freo
Collingwood v The Bombers.

It may be stating the obvious but nobody will know where they sit on the ladder until the end of that round. (Except maybe Port who IMO are going to get the minor premiership)

all of those things are possibilities and can be looked at, but for us to really stamp our selves as genuine top 4 place getters, we need to show some genuine form instead of relying on other teams bad form to get us into the top 4. We must focus first of all on getting to the finals, and as we have a generous run to the finals, with the bulldogs, richmond, fremantle and collingwood, all of which are win-able games, we cant take any-games for granted. The bulldogs are one of the most talanted out-fits in the business, and with the promise of their youngsters, the best small forward in the competition and one of the best ruckmen in the land, the un-predictability of the bulldogs could prove surprising for the bombers. The tigers are also an un-predictable out-fit, no one expected the tigers to beat Essendon in round 4 or 5 (i forget), and they pulled out a stunning upset. With the addition of another small into their forward line, which have shown to give the bombers trouble in the past, they again prove that this match can become a danger game. And every week that passes without Richmond getting a win, the hungrier and hungrier they get...and who better than Essendon to pull one out of the bag on? As for the other two games, Fremantle and Collingwood, they speak for themselves really...Fremantle, top 6, hungrier than ever to reach their first ever finals series, even hungrier to get success in Melbourne, which is also required for finals success, and a quick midfield and forward line, which Essendon has struggled with in the past, also is a great danger game. And for Collingwood, there is only one word to sum up the round 22 encounter. BLOCKBUSTER! Anyone who isnt there to witness this match must be crazy, because this has the potential to become one of the best matches of the season. Essendon having the potential to win the next 3 matches, and with Collingwood in spectacular form, it may come down to this match. I dont know about you people, but this match will be one for the ages, the build up will be phenomenal...the adrenaline will be un-believable. We love to beat them, they love to beat us, and what could also tumble into a preview to an up-and-coming September battle will be amazing. We have the potential to beat them, they have the likewise potential, but as I have summed up, top 4 is not what we should be talking about at the moment. After all, if we put all the effort into making the top 4, then slipping short of September action, what a waste of 6 months that would be. We forget the Kangaroos are just 2 points down on us, and one slip up at the last minute could see the roos pounce, as we know they have the capability to do. Now lets see, the roos have Freo, (a match which Dean Laidley has described as a grand final, a game which the whole roos will be pumped up for), hawthorn, adelaide, and carlton, all winable matches, but hopefully the adelaide game at AAMI will prove the bogey match. The roos slip-up over the w/e could have been make or brake for the roos, but the fight in the roos is un-questionable.

i'm pumped for the end of the season, to see how it pans out, and on review, it has been a fantastic season, if essendon makes the finals or not, but you get the feeling that if essendon does make the finals, with all the finals experience that they dock with jimmy, fletch, lloydy, mercs and smokin joe, you get the feeling they have the potential to stir up the finals plot.

but in conclusion, STICK IT UP EM' DONS!

my 2 cents, nandoz. the bomber n00b :)

Is there any real benefit to finishing fourth, as opposed to say, fifth?

We'd have to play first up against Port at AAMI, get flogged, and end up playing in a semi anyway. I guess there's always that outside chance we could upset them and make the prelim, but I don't see that happening.

but if you finish 5th, you are in sudden death mode from the start, and have no opportunity for a home final after the first week

we should go back to the old top 8

double chance, and a guaranteed home final in either second or thrid week.

The advantage of fourth spot is that even if we were to lose, we'd still get a home final in melbourne the next week, and every week thereafter.

However, pazza's scenario is just as good - home finals all the way, albeit us having to win 4 straight to take out the big one.

Thank you Hawthorn!

Sydney has lost one they would've expected to win, so now it looks like they're out of the top 4 with a tough run home - Brisbane, the maggots, and Melbourne, none of which are gimmes...except maybe the last one

As I said, to get anywhere, we HAVE to win our last 4 games, and by reasonable margins too, preferably...
