Great post, sums the situation up perfectly.

Out of the delistings, none of them had an impact, Daisy had no impact, and Fasolo, Tooves and Young didnt pla virtually.

So much to like, trade well and we will still be competitive.

Will all come down to talent in 2015, if its good we may slide down the ladder and set up.

If not i think we are still capable of finishing 4th. Depends on what Bux does with game plan, its not the best at the moment.
we often forget that Toovey can play as extra tall (he always smashes Jack Darling), makes a big difference to back line.. Fasolo with forward line flair, can kick a goal and take a mark..
we still need a key forward - sends Reid to backline again to shore that end up..
we need to find that intangible trait that wins finals - hunger.. pure and simple.. we have the talent, but not always the hunger...

This back line can win us a premiership. Assuming nobody leaves.

Toovey Brown 3rd tall
Shaw Reid Thomas

Need to fill that floating 3rd tall position, Maxwell and Goldsack aren't up for it at the moment. Think Josh Gibson, Alex Johnson, Andrew Mackie and Michael Johnson.
But what about putting Keeffe at CHB and using Reid as the 3rd? Well if Keeffe is having a bad match up and we need to swap him around with Reid during a game, Keeffe then becomes a useless Giraffe floating around in defence.

I do agree that themulletking's comments on the players seem as much informed by hope as by performance. Most of these players are yet to prove themselves in a big game, such as a final. I hope Thomas does prove to be Swan mkII, that Seedsman and Sinclair not only break lines but also shut down an opponent. O'Brien had a good year but he lacks composure and went missing against the best sides. Witts has a long way to go before he no longer gets swept aside in ruck duels.

Well said, TGG

We will improve but to what extent and at what rate?

The kids will get better but will they get better quick enough?

Even our core group has improvement in them but how much more?

Will our game plan improve quick enough for us to get back to the top and challenge?

Will we address our deficiencies quick enough in order to gain the improvements that we desperately need and seek?

We may require another step or two back before we launch forward. I'm hoping this isn't the case but it looks most likely.

Hahahahah and im wrong?

Don't think ive ever read so much dribble in my entire life, we should have won the flag according to you.

Take the rose coloured glasses off, terrible post.[

Your right, it was a terrible post. The fact i thought i could even begin to reason with people who obviously love nothing more then being negative was nothing short of foolish. I should probably just let people embarrass themselves and laugh at them when they try and jump back on the bandwagon when we get good again. Let's just wait and see.

Keeffe did not have a great season, not reaching the heights of his previous year. He had a reasonable game against Buddy, and benefited from the changing tide of play when switched onto dangerous opponents late in other games. I felt it was the season he needed to have before his next season, with a pre-season in between to bulk and tank him up.

A 'useless giraffe' is not the Keeffe we will see next year. His awkward frame and movement do suggest a body more at home spiking a beach volleyball than manning monster forwards as an AFL defender. If he can adopt Toovey's fearless body on body, 'in, under and/or around then through' approach, and slide through packs while bravely contesting in the air, then he will at very least be a useful giraffe. His mobility with his height is his best weapon, and his disposal is ambidextrously decent, better than most of our backs. He needs to establish his defensive post as his own with some decisive performances in the early rounds.

Unfortunately for Keeffe, until he creates new memories of himself, he will be most remembered by his last game, as an ineffectual 2nd ruck taking up valuable marking space deep in the forward line. This sad misuse of the man will also not be recalled as one of Buckley's best positional tactics for his benefit or that of the team.

I thought he was coming off a knee reco, must have been thinking of Okeefe, who's he?

FTR mate Keeffe is one of the most promising young KBs in the comp.

Would read again.

One of our weapons during 2010-2011 was Reid down back and his ability to hit long range targets with his raking left foot, teams really clamped down on him in the latter part of 2011 and during 2012-2013, moving him forward worked for us offensively but it hurt our rebound as teams clamped down harder on our other HBs, IMO we really struggled to open teams up from HB this year, it used to be one of our strenghs.

I'm disappointed to hear we've offered Brown a 3 year deal, IMO Brown is nothing more than a stopper (ala Presty), but he was soundly beaten many times this year playing that role, he offers us nothing offensively, i rate Keeffe higher and i don't think Frost is far away from him, i would have traded him TBH.

Agreed

Yep,watch his twin Mitch.

Both average.

Both look to be going backwards, i might be a little hard on Nate as he's coming off a reco but he just looks slowwwwwwww.

I'm all for having a stopper, but they have to be able to stop.

No you're not being hard at all.

Never really rated him before his knee reco, sure he was great against Riewoldt in the 2010 replay.

But he is going backwards.

For some reason he is 101kg and Reid is 102kg, very unusual for defenders to carry that extra weight. In fact our whole team looked like they were carrying extra weight this season. I swear Beams must have put on about 5kg since last year.

I agree with you, Coming off a knee injury and starting the season very late, I just don't think he showed his best this year. He will be better for the run next season.

How many others kept Roughead and Kennedy to a combined 1 goal?

Like against Sydney and Geelong yeah?

If I look at what we have lost this year in terms of delistings and what we might lose at the trade table

compared to what we have coming through, who we have coming back from injury and what we might gain from trades

Then my expectation is that we should be able to improve.

We've lost a lot of depth and experience in Didak, Jolly, Krakour and we may lose Daisy and perhaps even Heater.

Palyers like Pendlebury, Cloke, Beams, Reid et al will still be in their prime.

We will gain back Toovey and Fasolo and perhaps get Young right and get a contribution from him and we will get more footy this season from Beams and Ball you'd think.

We have wonderful young talent who have significant games under their belt in Elliot, J Thomas, Seedsman, Williams, Keefe and we picked up a bit of a mature age bonus in Dwyer

We have some very promising kids in Grundy, Witts, Kennedy, Frost & Oxley. Then Martin, Ramsay, Broomhead should all be pushing up next season as well. Paine is a bit of an unknown commodity at the moment but showed a bit in his first year.

We also have the potential to gain good trade outcomes should we lose Daisy and / or Heater,

I also, always trust Hine to draft some very good talent.
