i trust Rocket to make the right decision. He wont $%$@#%$ us over.
Rocket's a good coach but he's still a coach and he wants success. Look what topping up did for us in '98 and '99. It left us with a huge hole in the list which is only now beginning to be filled in again.

Thats what I was thinking. I'm really torn here too, because they're two players whom I am hoping will wear the Dogs colours for year to come.

As you imply Dog 36, it would be hard for the Dogs to justify re-signing someone, especially within Eade's tenure and then trading them come season end.
Given Eade has now publicly stated an intention to consider finding a readymade forward through trading to bring immediate impact to the team, it does mean that some tought decisions are ahead.
I do not envy the task, as it's not like we have an abundance of players we'd be immediately willing to give up , who in turn would be considered fair trade by another club for a high calibre forward recruit like a Tredread, Whitnall etc.

We have a few players who may be considered trade-worthy along with another player or draft pick for another club's developing player and/or future picks. And we also have a few guys who would probably not be considered by other clubs in a trade situation, and would probably end up being delisted by the Dogs, and maybe redrafted by another club.

As much as I want McMahon and Faulkner to stay with the Dogs, unless they re-sign soon, it may be an indicator that they may be players whom Eade believes will provide the interest from other clubs to enable him to secure the type of player he is after.
One of those players plus a high draft pick, may raise the eyebrows of other clubs with something to offer.

Hope it doesn't happen though.

I think much of the trading period will be determined by what happens to Luke Power in the coming weeks. If he signals an intention to stay up here in Bris-Vegas alot of interesting variables involving his brother Sam as a trade enhancer will cease. Unless Brisbane decide buy into the debate and offer the Bulldogs a deal for Sam plus one of (Faulkner/McMahon/draft pick to head up North to induce Luke to stay in return for Bradshaw??

Utter nonsense
McMahon and Faulkner have every right to hold out for better offers which they are probably doing, their is still 8 home and away weeks to go and I remember in previous years Bulldogs signing much later than this.
And why the hell do we want to go trading for another 6ft 1 outside midfeilder like Luke Power when we've allready got Cooney, Griffen, Murphy, Giansiracusa, Ray etc

One thing I am confused about Eades comments regarding trading for a tall is that he acknowledges that we need a quality tall or two but in the background there are a couple things happening that confuse me.

1. Street/Wil are showing to be competent ruckman hence Darcy in 06 may be more of a permanent forward, hence we get our quality tall and if Grant plays on in 06 thats another tall forward.

2. Although he acknowledges we need talls he is relucatant to play talls down in the forward line, If he sees the problem why does he not play Walsh, Skipper, Bowden, K-Mac, Rawlings even Street/Wil when resting. Has he made up his mind that none of these will make it as a forward?

Could it be he has made these comments to keep the players on their toes as though telling them that we will trade so if you want to be here next year and beyond keep playing quality football.

What do others think?

Walsh would have kept playing after the Kangaroos game had he not injured his finger. Although, I would of thought by now he'd of had another go because he looked good against the 'roos. Then again, Eade has said that Walsh is still a few years off but in saying that, he'll get a few more games before the season's over.

Bowden hasn't been playing good enough. Simple as that. His form at Werribee has been mediocre. He should be dominating, but he's far from doing that. He's not hard at the ball and is slack. He'll be looked to be traded if he doesn't pick up his game in these next few weeks.

Rawlings is a joke. He can't jump off the ground anymore. He can't kick a goal if he was in the square. He no longer takes contested marks. It's pointless playing him in the forward line, he does nothing. They just have to play him where he played his best football at Hawthorn, in the backline, and hope he comes good.

Not too sure why he hasn't tried Street at FF. Should tell the guy not to move out of the square, and for us to kick it long. Surely he'd take a few marks and kick some goals. Will on the otherhand hasn't learnt to take contested marks, until he does that, he won't be put in that forward line. They tried it against Geelong at Skilled Stadium, and he wasn't exactly impressive lol. He's only learning though, it'll come.

OK. Ummm... referring to a comment you made elsewhere, Are you in the innner sanctum of the Bulldogs. Do you know Cam and Jordan are holding out for better offers from the dogs? No so shut your trap, and don't just troll for a fight. My post is in response to the post topic, and at no stage did I say it is going to happen. I am merely expressing that it is unlikely we will trade guys we have recently signed, and therefore as time goes on guys that haven't re-signed will be discussed as potential trade, especially in light of Rodney's comments this weekend about trading.

You've also confirmed that apart from not being able to write cogently, you also have a problem reading. I threw up there the possibility of Brisbane trying to acquire Sam from us in a bid to entice Luke to stay, not for the dogs to get Luke Power. I'll try writing in monosyllabic form in future so you can understand.

Pehaps you also have a concentration problem hence you find my posts long winded. Maybe go back to reading picture books eh?

Cooney for John Brown and Bradshaw would you trade him for that?

Brown is the most dominating player in the league... he's an untouchable, even more so than the coondog. I love cooney, but in the end he's a midfielder, not a power forward. How many good midfielders are there running around? Now count the top class forwards?

I understand talking 'hypothetical' trades... but trades that would never occur under any circumstances seem pointless to reflect on.

Who could we realistically entice ,even if we could afford it?
Who is under contract or out of contract?
Who would leave their club to come to us?
I don't think Chris grant should be forced to retire!

My gut feeling is Lance Whitnall.

I hope Chris Grant plays on. He shouldn't miss out on the fun.

A short term solution might be Nick Holland, who is likely to be available at the end of the season. He took 13 marks for BHHs a fortnight ago and he reckons he still has something to offer.

Whitnall is an expensive gamble.

Waite would be a better choice, younger and is still on the up.
We could aford to pay him more than he is getting at Carlton and he is yet to resign.

Let's not just get someone for the sake of making a big signing.

Also, we need to keep some room in our cap for 07/08 because that is when all of the players we have just resigned are going to be resigned. People like Cooney, Griffen etc are going to be worth considerably more than they are now and clubs will be persuing them hard.

Mike Tyson reckons he still has something to offer.

Regarding the article in Sundays Sun written by John Ralph about enticing a tall forward. It seems as though we are not looking at a forward thats on the fringe at another club. The article seems to elude to the fact that we will be in the hunt for a high profile ready made key forward.

Might I suggest one name and I do want opinions on this and I am not sure if he has been mentioned on other threads but I think we should at the very least inquire of Michael Gardner form West Coast as a permanent forward. I think Cox has taken the ruck duties, Gardner has his issues reg private life in WA, we have the rucks covered so why not try to get him over as a full time key forward were he would not need to ruck to make a contribution to the team or even justify his position.

I think we are going after another ready made high profile forward rather than a fringe player. Opinions please.
