Leaving Bentick out is not a reflection on him, it is a reflection on the AFL which is increasingly becoming touch-footy played by triathletes ... that is another thread though. Jolley and Davis fit the profile, Bentick doesn't.

i think this year and maybe a part of last year, clubs are starting to lose out of athletes that they believe can be footballers, too many clubs have done this ala Melbourne. I Bentick will be taken putrely on the fact that he isn't the slowest and does have quite a good aerobic capacity, and he can find the football and execute his skills to the level required!. he is a very solid strong boy, continually breaking taclkes that are laid. another surprise packet that could come from calder, i maric, has not played many TAC games but is one that oozes potential, he is quite solid for a boy of his height and being able to run a 13 6 beep test at screening day wont do him any injustice

Port have plenty of flankers. I cant see us taking another 2 with 2 of our top 3 picks.

About 15kg (3 years in the gym) off a playing weight. Regularly beaten in the ruck by guys 15 cm shorter than he is. No intensity or toughness. However is 204cm and is deceptively polished in the skills department for a big fella. Port are one team that can afford to be patient with a ruckman.


Sounds like an utter dud to me.

I watched all 16 games he played for Port seniors this year and i cant recall him once playing for a free kick. So unless he got told to do it by the U/18 coach then i really dont know what your on about.

If Harry Miller is under 18 and played 16 senior games for Port he would have to be a certainty to be drafted wouldn't he ?

Very talented young lad around goals who may or may not get picked up. Very quick and does know where the goals are.The negative is that he appears to be limited to playing a small forward pocket role, and teams don't bust a gut to draft that type.

I'd expect him to make the grade if he did get picked up though.

I think he's worth a late pick at least. I'd certainly be happy if the Crows took him late.

Fair enough - I'll back your call over mine, you have seen him a lot more!

He definitely did it a lot in the carnival - I even watched the tape again a few weeks later to check and was almost throwing himself out of contests.

I think he will get picked up - he is quick and hits the ball at pace. On his day he could be very good. But like all forward pockets he is going to struggle for consistency.

If I saw Brett Jones as a junior I don't remember him.

Paul Richardson is in that mix of similar midfield types. In any year there may be 20-30 or more midfielders with similar attributes. In my phantom draft I suggested Foley and Priddis as leading that pack. Without putting words into his mouth GoaldenHawk seems to like Oswald, others are going for Travers and here Richardson is being put forward. It could go any way.

The 178-180cm rover/centreman without electric pace, with OK skills who gets the ball 20 times is the most competitive player category and one wear the clubs don't really feel the need to draft early. Picking which 1-2 of the 20-30 will go on is about the most difficult thing for the recruiters and it is no accident that this group provides a lot of rookie-list success stories.

Hes not bad. Hes only 17 and played 16 games for the Magpies kicking 22 goals for the year. Was played up ground a bit thru the midfield to see how he is at creating play and he didnt let the Magpies down. Certainly did ok in the midfield.

Hes a goalsneak in the pure sense of the word tho. Has great pace, very good foot skills and knows where the goals are. Like all goalsneaks he probably needs to work a bit harder when the opposition has the ball. I cant really see him being any more than a forward pocket at AFL level, but players have made a fairly good career out of just being that in the past.

He'd be worth somewhere between pick 35-45.
