The sudden emergence of the Golden State Warriors has a lot of fans wondering how far they can go this season. At three wins and nine losses, it looked an all too familiar story for Baron Davis and his Warriors, but six undefeated games later, the Warriors are one of the form teams of the competition.

Along with Davis, Stephen Jackson, Andris Bedrins, Al Harrington and Monta Ellis have found some super form.

The performance of the week goes to Chris Paul, who led his team to an overtime victory against Dallas. The star Point Guard shot 33 points, laid off 13 assists, grabbed down nine boards and had three steals. The victory keeps the Hornets in the top four with a 12-6 record.

I'm confused. How can you give 3/2/1 without actually watching every game?

And there's a few too many there for you to have watched them all...

A 30 and 23 game doesnt get you MVP for the game?

Eight turnovers and bad shooting from the free throw line loses him votes.

And as Sheller indicated, I read match reports and stats to cast my votes.

No way Dirk beats Butler in that match. Caron had 35 pts (on 76% shooting and 5/5 3PM) 8 rebounds and 2 steals.

Mate, that's very close. I remember that one being extremely hard to compare. I wouldn't say "no way Dirk beats Butler".

Dirk had 31 points himself and shot accurately too. He had just as many boards as Caron and an extra four assists. Also two less turnovers.

Looking at the stats again, I probably could have given Caron the three for his five treys, but it's extremely close nonetheless.

kobe sneaking under the radar
hell finish with 29,5,5 this year and if lakers keep playing like they are
hes a def mvp chance
they just need 50 wins IMO for him to get it

great effort xbox, pretty hard to do every game but youve done pretty well

where is manu in your list?from his season id thought he might have enough votes to get into the top 10 or be just outside it

SAS
T. Duncan 25
M. Ginobli 24
T. Parker 23
F. Elson 1
B. Bowen 1
M. Finley 1
B. Barry 1

I don't know, seems a little bit pointless to me. Very hard to tell from a boxscore who was the best player.

As an example, I watched that Howard 30/23 game, and he was the best player on the floor by miles. Like, it wasn't even close.

Same thing goes for Manu - he's won several games for them singlehandedly - stuff that just doesn't show up in stats.

Each to their own I guess.

I agree with what you're saying. However, it would be unfair for me to not take stats into account for only the games I watch. I thought Redd was the match-winner yesterday and won the game for them when a champion needed to step up in the final quarter, however, going by stats, I have to give the three to Bogut.

Why? After all basketball is about what happens on the court, not on the stat sheet. If you thought Redd was best, why not give it to Redd...

I don't mean to single you out, but the obsession with traditional NBA stats like pts/asts/rebs drives me a little crazy at times. Like Parker winning the finals MVP last year just because he led the team in scoring, when Duncan's presence is what allows him to score so easily in the first place.

There are tons of useful stats in basketball, but they only really apply over good sample sizes. There's just no way you can tell how well someone played in a single game without watching it.

My 2c

i agree with you to an extent
but stats are important none the less
even if redd won them the game at the end
if bogut was better for 1st 3 quarters, he deserves the 3

That's not stats though - that's saying Bogut was the best player in the first 3 quarters. I'm talking about watching the entire game.

The only way your opinion has any merit is if I watch every single game. That's not going to happen, so I have to be fair for all players, every game, every day - give consistent votes the same time, every time. That means not casting votes differently for games I watch and for most of the other games where I review stats.

I completely understand that - but why not cast votes on a monthly basis? Why do you need to cast votes every game?
