I fail to see the value in retaining a senior player (with good trade value) who doesn't want to be at the club when we are rebuilding both our culture and our list.

This was our Hawthorn moment (Croad for Hodge) and we blew it.

Palmer and Smedts were collateral additions. They aren't part of our vision for the future. Marchbank and Pickett are. We acquired 2 players we targeted as crucial for #17 and retained our early picks in the process.

If all goes to plan we should have 4 players obtained this off-season part of our next premiership side.

There is a significant chance Palmer and Smedts won't be on the list beyond next year.
