From Melbum board:

“Losing good young players that have potential to be elite in their position (which is how highly I rate McVee) that you've put 3-4 years development into to get a pick in 2026 just feels like bad business.

He's a really good decision maker, wins 1v1s and is a lovely kick. Our list really lacks for his type and it isn't a good look if we can't convince him to stay…”

work with melbourne supporter. said at the start of the year he thought he was gonna make an all australian one day. Bit of a shock cause i'd never even heard of Judd. But he was adamant he was gonna be a gun.

So reckon we got a gun and we've shafted melbourne. kinda feel for them.

*topic of conversation was melbournes rebuild and who was melbournes best young talent.

And 33 and 50 and 44 into 46 (according to Twomey)

Everyone knows that pick 2 is coming to WC so no point not considering this.

Part 1 being;
13,34 > 20, McVee (values McVee at 23) - a higher cost (ie I said the range was around 24-29) than I expected but not too far off. The downside is that we have pick 20 instead of 17-19.

Part 2 being;
45,51 > 47 makes zero sense.

The only way that would remotely work is if there is an F3 involved. Sometimes the deal has a caveat that the lowest “x” pick is traded before the end of trade period. I don’t know but surely there is something missing.

Run and neat disposal off half back, takes the game on and isn't afraid to lay a tackle

And don't forget that in that 2024 package he is holding his own in 1-on-1 aerial contests against the likes of Stringer and Caddy.

He's a very well rounded player and stoked to bring him in. As many others have said, this clearly has Clark 2.0 vibes to it.

Officially a Docker. Welcome Judd.

Now let's go get a Premiership. 🙂

Absolutely bogus trade aside, he will be good for us. Clean player and can attack as well as he can defend. It also gives us the flexibility to play him/Chapman/Clark/Simpson higher up the ground.

Hopefully he has a similar career trajectory to Clark so we can forget this trade ever transpired in the way it did. Welcome home Juddy.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the trade that actually brought McVee to the club.

Whilst the other trade is part of the overall picture of our off season think we look back at the McVee transaction as getting him for Pick 23, which became insert pick between 25 and 30 here.

Any trade that has more than 2 clubs and more than a couple of picks is touted as a mega trade.

23 for McVee is overs, but not ridiculously so, especially when that gets pushed back more, and in a reportedly weak draft. Taken in the rookie draft, spent first 12 months at vfl level, been a regular for the past 3 seasons, and Dees definitely wanted to keep him, he’d continue to be a regular. He’ll be a regular at Freo.

Been an inferior version of Quaynor or Saad as a medium defender, could see him spending time on a wing too. Freo have Jeremy Sharp, same sort of size, same sort of outside player, same sort of crazy-low tackle numbers. Sharp got banished to the wafl this year, though apparently still has 2 more years on his contract. McVee’s an upgraded version of Sharp.

Freo turning 12 & 33 into 19 & McVee doesn’t look like a good deal to me.
