I’ll be watching extremely closely to see how this situation is handled.

We will find out once his tenure over. We don’t know why he kept Voss on for another year. The whole joint could’ve needed to be overthrown for all we know, and he decided to hang on to one part of the club so we didn’t go back to ground zero in one off season

If you’re going to sack a coach and pay out his contract, and get a new one (who you’d need to commit to for a minimum 3 years really), then you’d want a severe upgrade on the bloke person youre sacking.

Rational decision is to wait it out a year.

You’re also using the benefit of hindsight here. For all we know Wright did contract King, he contacted plenty of candidates, none worthy for the job long-term were available/wanted to join.

But if he appointed the wrong coach for the sake of sacking Voss then we would lose more than a year of player development. Pretty much repeating the past mistake of the Teague appointment.

I also suspect it’s part of a bit of a clean up of Carlton’s reputation as a coach killing environment. At least let Voss see out his contract so he can’t say he wasn’t given a chance to improve.

I get where you're coming from. However, from my perspective it's not going with an "unproven" coach, it's about going with a coach who hasn't proven that they are incompetent. Voss has proven time and time again that he is categorically not up to it. I wanted us to remove him and run an open process to find the best candidate among the assistant coaching ranks. Whether that ended up being King or not is unimportant. He's just one possible name.

Going with the known - an underwhelming year where 6-7 games are won - is far more rational than going into a year of the unknown and committing to it for 3+ years.

Don’t get me wrong, judging by the start to the year, we probably should’ve sacked him, but I 100% can see the logic - was a pure CEO decision.

He’ll be gone at the end of the year if not sooner.

While we’ll never actually know why he kept Voss last year, my best guess is a combination of: (a) the coach or coaches he actually wanted weren’t available, (b) the list needs significant work so 2026 was likely to be a flop anyway (Voss takes the hit before another coach takes over in 2027 when we’ve got 20 more games into youth + Cody + whoever else we can draft this year) and (c) trying to rid our reputation as a club who doesn’t honour the contracts of coaches.

Either way, there’s a lot of pressure on him and Davies to nail a quality senior coach and weed out underperforming senior players.

Unfortunately the not that good at your job has to apply to the players as well.
Just commented on that there’s only 4 players suited to the “modern game”, being the Hollands’, Jagga & Walsh (which was then debated due to his lack of kicking prowess yet choosing to take the kicks on).
