Hi everyone, I don't follow the vfl much, what are some of the expectations of these 2?
Hi chadsb, welcome on board!!!!
Keep on posting, and don't let some of the long term inmates scare you off, overall they're pretty much harmless, or full of piss and wind.
Gibbo hopefully will become a part of our mid during this year, providing experience and leadership, his credentials at VFL level have set new records....but he may also play a number of games in the NB's during the year, giving our younger guys support as part of their ongoing development.
Cotters there are mixed opinions...some saying he may slot into our outside mid group during the year with his elite endurance, others that he may be more of a project player into the future with others ahead of him.
Hope this helps...well, at least a little...

Plug gaps if needed, help the development in the VFL if not needed.

Auditioning for a permanent place on the list next season.

One day not so long ago, after doing match sim for a couple hours in the extreme heat, Russell decided that wasn't enough. So they went to nearby hilly terrain and proceeded to do a large number of hill sprints, where Gibbons won every single one.

Looking forward to see what he can do, my expectation is rather high.

Cottrell is probably a likely project type, probably a good option for a wing or half back role with his running ability.

Gibbons I can see potentially playing early. A genuine forward/mid option like fisher. It could be an interesting forward line with Gibbons, Fisher, Polson and potentially Fasolo as well teaming up with McKay, Curnow and McGovern. There's some real zip there.

“A genuine honest midfielder who you know what you are going to get. Suited to the inside, but has played outside, he just attacks the ball and tries to clear it forward”

Cottrell had some really damaging TAC games by reports.
- 28 disposals, four clearances, eight inside 50s, two rebounds and a goal
- 19 disposals, five clearances and six inside 50s
- six clearances

Henceforth I shall call you Mick-Matt.

Mick-Matt, Patty-Mc(Kay) giving us a boner.

On a more serious note, as a former western suburbs boy who played tons of junior footy against the likes of Williamstown I'm absolutely rapt that Gibbo was given an opportunity. He'll make the most of it even if his upside is 16-22 on a building side. He's another who will influence the team culture and training habits more than his output. At this stage we need quite a few of those.

On Gibbons stats, hopefully his disposal efficiency improves with less attention. Would have been no.1 target for attention at Willi

An improved fitness base will also help his disposal efficiency.

He has been working as a carpet layer, while also studying at uni & then fitting in training. The opportunity to focus on footy for the last couple of months has already led to an improvement in his fitness. Imagine what he can achieve now he is on an AFL list.

I'm rapt with his signing.....not only could he really make it at AFL level, but his presence at VFL will be invaluable to the our young mids in their development. Look what he did with Willi....

2 JJ Listons at VFL....sorry, he won't be winning any more....Chaz Brownlow will be his next medal :thumbsu:

The CFC would have known Gibbons history, ability to improve his stamina....but still took Bugg ahead of him and then opted to leave one list spot vacant.
It may yet be another case of getting lucky by being unlucky but it's clear that Gibbons wasn't high on our agenda.
Maybe our outlook wasn't particularly favourable early on and that's completely changed, or maybe our options were simply limited.
As long as he plays his role then all good but maybe we're expecting just a little too much of him

Cottrell and Owies will make for an interesting watch in the VFL.
Cottrell probably on wing and Owies.....Wonder where he'll play.

Bloody brilliant....who's the kid on the left though?

Welcome on board Matty C.....now, go and watch a highlights package of your lookalike Mitch Robinson, take on his aggression along with your football prowess, and you'll do us all proud...especially JaB :thumbsu:

But stay away from King St at 5am on a Sunday morning.........

Was a player sitting out with hammy heavily iced at Maroochydore, didn't recognise, so I am guessing it was Owies, might be a little while.
Didn't pass on earlier as wasn't sure, but just about had to be.

Even if Gibbons doesn't play a lot of AFL football this year (I think he will) our VFL midfield players will develop so much better for players like Cuningham, Stocker and even Jack Silvagni. O'Rourke will only help this point too.

Little doubt that will be the case.
He may though yet play every game in the seniors should things fall his way, as they have been to date. You never know.
