How did he slip so low? Might have another Sammy Mitchell on our hands…
from what I can see he was never in the discussions for pick 20, but we will take that, everyone are winners on draft night, if he was supposed to go in top 20, then will take that and run with it. everyone loves feeling good on draft night, there are no losers, only winners.

valid point on his skills by foot. From what I have seen of him, I would suggest when he has the space and he knows he does his skills are good. Typically these inside mid likes just like to get ball to foot, hopefully jack can gain spacial awareness and that will help with his skills.
Seems to lack penertration with his kicks too. Struggles to kick them far, more up and under 30-35 passes

Very good pick, has the toughness, accumulation and genuine mid. Ability to kick goals, but his two way running is there. Elite runner. Probably lacks the composure and hacks it on the boot, but that’s less about his kicking and more about the composure. Strong by hand but in space shows good skills. Plenty to work with.

Ran a faster 2km time trial than Josh ward and Josh weddle.

In preason ran a better yoyo than Dylan Moore, sam walsh and the same as Andy Brayshaw

Elite runner

Maybe it’s just me but I can see that he was deliberately pulling those kicks (which made them go up a bit) and was hitting teammates on the chest!
No, even those hitting the target were up and under and showing too much to defenders when he should have been kicking low hit up passes.

Other than the few of the goals. The highlights i've seen show very few good kicks and a heap of poor ones. Come comments on pre-draft videos call him out for this.

He could improve this, but it's a clear weakness. I'm not sure why we felt we needed to trade up for him but must do the other stuff really really well.

He does seem to have a little too much hang time on his kicks whereas an elite kick like Merrett would have them as bullet passes which are impossible to defend against.

I asked a mate who knows a bit about under 18's ( essnd mate 😆) and he adamant Jack would be a mid to late teens pick if not for that injury. I said whether if his weakness in kicking may have also saw him slide but he just swatted that suggestion away by saying that even though it's an area that his coach said that he had to work on ,it's no different than most draftees that got drafted in the first round !!! It's just that he runs at a million miles an hour that sometimes he can bite off more than he can chew. Remembering these kids are 17/18!! Highlights show there's a lot to like about the way he navigates out of congestion and always on the move .

Giving some Crawford vibes with those kinds of times.

Actually Crawf could be a good comparison, probably identical heights and we all know what an amazing endurance runner Crawf was in his prime.

Is he quick?
He looks noticeably slower than everybody else on the park.
Whenever he gets the ball the opponent closes space on him quickly and easily.
I think he realises this and is always quick to move the ball on.

He can run all day and seems to work hard, uses the ball very well.
He's definitely a good footballer.

I just wonder if his endurance will be enough at senior level to offset his slow pace off the mark, or if that will consign him to dominating the VFL.

we must really rate his overall football skills and work rate bc it doesn't make sense to me from the clips that we traded up to get him.

Shane Crawford has SPEED!
He was a complete athlete.

Dalton will need to work hard on his pace off the mark.
Otherwise, looks a very good footballer.

His issue isn’t his off the mark pace. Has it. The issue I’ve noticed is maintaining his top speed, which is why he looks like he gets closed down a bit, or rushed.

As mentioned he was also very much the type to be trying to kick whilst flat out, so maybe it was in part of breaking away and trying to steady.

That part and his composure generally is obviously something to work on. Given its inconsistency around that tho, it’s not something that is clearly a “problem” or not.

Very easy to fix something or develop if you’ve already got the tools.

There’s no doubt around his ball winning, inside game, running and endurance etc tho so this other stuff that can either be a strength or weakness, is not a big factor.

Any word on his pace off the mark? Dewyyyyy doesn't think it's a problem, but he looks a touch slow in clips.
