Weller set for Tigers debut

Former Brisbane Lion Luke Weller is set to become the sixth player to debut for the Tigers this year.

Coach Danny Frawley pre-empted the selection of the developing key position player ahead of Friday night’s game against Adelaide at Telstra Dome.

With his side winless in the last three weeks, Frawley said the senior players could follow the lead of first year teenagers Brent Hartigan and Tom Roach.

“They’re playing with a lot of flair and they’re having a real constant crack at getting the ball in there. So that’s something that all our players need to do,” he said on Thursday.

After suffering a demoralising 49-point loss to Geelong in round four, Frawley said his side had enjoyed a confidence-building training session on Tuesday.

“I think the boys on the track on Tuesday got a hell of a lot of confidence back, but we’ll just have to wait and see tomorrow night.”

“We kicked more goals than we did points, unlike we did in the first quarter last week when our first five shots were points and the opposition’s first five shots were goals. That’s how quickly you can turn it around.”

“You tell the boys to go out there and take them on. Take them on, don’t be afraid to make a mistake, because if you’re worrying about the last mistake you’re going to be very reactive.”

“We realise we’re a hell of a lot better side than the way we’ve been playing.”

Frawley said David Rodan was likely to return to the side after being demoted last week and playing well for Coburg in the VFL.

Darren Gaspar and Mark Coughlan did not train with the main group during its light session at Punt Road Oval on Thursday morning.

Essendon premiership player Justin Blumfield is still about three weeks away from being fit.

The past 2 and a bit years would say otherwise Danny. Maybe one day we'll keep our stupid gobs shut midweek and do our talking on the park  .

Nice touch of logic there Danny :D

It i'll be interesting to see where he slots in(probably the back-half) and how much game-time he gets.

He looked lost in a couple of the pre-season games but hopefully his run with coburg and the opputunity for a senior spot will see him left another level.
