I think this kid deserves his own discussion thread. Gaining promotion from the rookie list and a mid year indiscretion, are a couple of things the "boot" had to deal with this year. An excellent game against Geelong, pitted against none other than G. Ablett saw Sharrod give us a glimpse of what he's capable of. A good turn of speed, neat skills and some, dare I say it "X factor" makes me salivate at what this kid could produce. Some photos of him at training certainly gives the impression he hasn't been idle in the off season. Next time he plays on GA, it may not be so much boy V man as the commentators suggested that day.

What are your views guy's?

Needs to bulk up and get fitness.

From what i saw at pre season and the photos he has both.

So a big year in the middle for sharrod, he also needs to know excatly what his role is he got tired and confused by late in the year

Shazza can definitely become more than a good player.

He possesses traits that cry out ELITE!

Honestly reminds me of a young Daniel Kerr, just lacking that added bit of mongrel in him.

Should become a regular in the best 22 next season, quite easily IMO.

I said the same thing when I 1st saw Sharrod that he reminded me of Kerr

I think he will be a great player, just needs to put on a few kg. I think by the end of the season he'll be in the 22 no doubt.

Hopefully we will see him doing more of this.:thumbsu:

He along with J-Mac are the future of our midfield.

Both put their head over the ball which is a start.

Looks to have put on a bit of weight, and the club obviously rates him high enough to keep him after he lost us the sponsorship.

Honestly guys, there's so much to be excited about this year!

his traits may cry out a elite, but his attitude doesnt. i dare say that i think his off field misbehaviour will re surface

He is by far the most exciting prospect of the magpies taken post 05 draft. He could easily be a hard nosed mid, loves it tough as described by bucks. All he needs to do is work hard on his body and this kid will be a keeper. Ive been on him for along time, prior to elevation he showed signs that not many have a VFL level.

How do you know this and If true then I wonder how long he be at the club then?

I agree, I think he is the most exciting future prospect on the list. However, I think comparisons with Kerr are misplaced. Wellingham is hard, but he doesn't have anywhere near the intensity of Daniel Kerr.

Kerr would break through a brick wall to lay a tackle. He would dive on the ball and wouldn't care if he puts his shoulder out as long as he hits body in the process.

Wellingham is nowhere near as intense as this. He will keep his head over the ball, but doesn't have the same hard attack at the ball carrier - that desperation to drive a tackle or else. I have seen him many times just run beside a player with the ball rather than dive hard.

Not every players an angel , you cant put a negative mark against him forever because of an incident in the past.

After that incident early last year he managed to work his way into the side and pretty much stay there for most of the year. That is a good indication of a positive attitude more than anything.

Franklin and fev are two obvious examples of "off field misbehaviour" players who have shown they can still make it on field.

Footy world has too many do gooders now days waitin for people to stuff up

Who said Ablett could not be tackled

Ablett "the untackleable" got caught 7 times in that game.
He was also forced to give off 6 ineffective handballs (3 resulting in turnovers) as well due to tackles which did not quite stick.
Yes...he is human. But for god sake don't ever point this out to a cats fan.:D

Funnily enough we had the 08 GF, as well as the Pies Geelong match, on yesterday during our Xmas celebrations and I got to watch the whole game again after the family had all gone home.

Those who contest that Ablett should have won the Norm Smith over Hodge are totally deluded.
Ablett had very little impact in the game apart from a few little cameo's.
Hodge was directing traffic from the first minute of the game until the last seconds and was more than a worthy winner.

i tend to hang around town abit, hit the night spots. im not saying i have seen him do anything untoward, but the crowd he hangs out with is not the best influence and he doesnt seem like the type to resist temptation for to long. having said that, he may have dropped all that after the incident i havent seen him out for sometime...

So he might be like the Rat Pack player we had over the last few years?

he has the skills, its just a matter of whether he is willing to apply himself for the duration of his career. he became the player we praise only after being sanctioned and berated by eddy...if he is always in need of external motivational sources then yeah i reckon he could end up dropping off. i think that all the great players are very determined ambitious ppl, i cant really see that in sharrod. i would love to be wrong!!!!!!

People go on about his attitude. But I don't see what the difference is between his attitude and that of Pendles in his first season. Even Buckley questioned Pendles commitment in his first season due to his lackadaisical nature. I think Wellingham is pretty similar. He shows controlled intensity when required, but obviously needs to work on regulating his concentration levels throughout an entire game.

He's more naturally talented a midfielder than any other young midfielder on our list.
