Welsh out??

A caller rang 5AA tonight and said that he had the following first hand from a current Crows player:

It was one of the Crows players who dobbed Hudson and Welsh into the club for breaking the curfew - even though the dobber wasn't there at the time.

It was Biglands who saved Welsh's arse by saying that he took Welsh home well before the curfew.

The caller thought that it wasn't the greatest thing for team harmony for one of their own to dob players in.

Quite right too - low action IMO.

KG and Cornesy in particular gave it great credibility.

That actually lines up with a little snippet I read in the last day or so that they were dobbed in by a team-mate who just scraped into the team.

Very un- Australian IMO.

Hmm I have an idea who the player might be, but we won't say names...do you think it's true?

This is the rumour crap that has been driving me mad all week. I mentioned about Akermanis being canned for writing an article about an "un-named" player by the 5AA mob. Then they have been running innuendoes all week about the "curfew" problem. I heard "the caller on 5AA" and he could have been Billy the Goose from the Portside pub but KG was blubbering about how there may be something in it. The media have been a bit poor this week, topped off by our ex Crow Captain guru (in his Mail column) talking about "Bomber Thompson the Fremantle caretaker coach!!"
Don't put too much credence on al that you haer and read in SA.

I assume you think it was very un-Australian to mention Biglands, Welsh and an un-named player who just scraped into the team!! I'd like to see these guys sue the A*** off 5AA for their libellous implications. They have a dump button. Surely these calls need to be dumped!!

I thought there something fishy about Welsh being dropped.

Shin Soreness - what a crock of smokescreen.

The most important game of the year and Welsh is dropped for shin soreness?? on a soft spongy ground!

Craigy must think we came down in the last shower.

John Reid has previously said that Huddo was dobbed in to the club - without saying by whom though.

I had heard the same story previously from a media personality, so there could well be something in it.

Thats only true with people who rely solely on stats to prove their point ;). I have said numerous times that Jericho is coming along but slowly and many times people will bag him just because they have a preconcieved ideas about him.

For example, many people here absolutely bag the living day lights out of Jericho for his lack of defensive action but not one of those people would dare suggest anything similar about Knights. But truth be told, both of those players have little to no defensive actions in their game. Its this set in stone opinions that shit me off.

Jericho no doubt has his flaws but we have had people on this board label his game against the Cats as pathetic when in actual fact he played a servicable game and was FAR FAR from our worse player. In fact he would probably be in the top 3rd best players yesterday.

Using stats alone is not good enough but isn't it a little be hypocritical that people who love to use the stats to prove their point, dismiss those same stats when they dispove their point ;)

We have had numberous cases of that regarding Jericho's game in the last 24 hours. Time to give players a clean slate and rate them equally on what they actually do on the field than go in looking for their faults. Jericho was efficient yesterday and while his 1st half was soft, his increase in intensity and output in the 2nd half was a big improvement on what he has shown previously.

a very good summary

IMO Jericho's talents would be better used if he played off a half back flank/back pocket or wing/midfield - ie more as a straight ahead type player so he can use his kicking etc skills

may i just point out to some that Jericho is only 4 months 3 wks older than Brad Symes

I think you must have come down in the last shower if you think Welsh did not have shin soreness. What grounds have you fro doubting the selectors? You attended training? Blind Freddy could see that he was struggling in the latter part of the session.

Sorry to ruin the conspiracy theory but Scott Welsh did not play because of shin soreness, the same injury that has restricted his training for the past couple of weeks.

thanks for that.
While you're here, is there any news on Dave Mackay? Last time we heard about him was 3 weeks ago and that he had been running for 2 weeks. Is he likely to sit out the rest of the season or is he a chance to play SANFL again before the season's out?

Edit:
David Mackay?
haha snap!

Thank you!

People forget that this is not the first time Welsh has had issues with shins. His last season was practically ruined by shin splints.

David Mackay?

I just spoke to Stephen Schwerdt to make sure I had the latest info just for you! Dave has been running for several weeks and also has done some football training with the rehab group but at this stage it is unlikely he will be thrown back into full training or games this season. As I think I wrote earlier, the club decided to take a long-term view with DMac. But the good news is that he has had no further setbacks, he is training pretty hard and the plan is to make sure he is ready to go for day one of pre-season training in November.

Wise move:thumbsu:

With Mattner out of favour on the wing, Mackay is shaping as the perfect long term replacement;)

Many thanks for the up-date. :thumbsu:

Great move by the club IMO as this kid really can play.

Put him in cotton wool until next year and with a few kgs on he'll be playing wing at AFL for us next year at some stage. :thumbsu:

I love your blind optimism and I agree one day David MacKay will be a very good player for the AFC – but it won’t be next year. Not under Neil Craig and “they are not ready” party line structure.

2009 he could get 1 or 2 game and then 2010 will be his break out year.

He looked a million dollars the week before.

Welsh might not have made THE difference, but he would certainly have made A difference to a team that, on paper, looked to lack goal scoring options going in.

I just thought with our season on the line he perhaps might of played anyway...but he wasnt fit I accept that.;)

Thanks for the update! I'm looking forward to seeing him in action again next year.
