WE'RE FLYING HIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

19.11 (125) - 16.11 (107)

What a win, listening to it on the radio, i was shitting myself at the end. Can't believe we got home.

I said during the week, my spirits had been lifted after that second half fightback against the Swans - now i'm on top of the footballing world.

On the radio they said, we totally outplayed them in the first half, and were unlucky not to be 6 or 7 in front at half time - we just couldn't finish off a lot of moves.

If that's the case, i can't wait till Cummings comes back from injury and Cox gets a bit of experience.

Then we play Cox in the ruck full-time, and have Gardiner at CHF, Cummings at FF, Phil Matera, Mark Merenda in the forward pockets and Wilson on the flanks. That's quite an imposing forward line.

I'm happy to hear i wasn't the only one crapping myself in the last quarter

Great performance by our team, Roo played as if he was 25 again, Cox and Kerr looked as if they had 100 games experience and Cousins has finally come of age. A lot of his kicks were perfect LEFT footers.

Anyone see Kerrs screeaaaaaamer? A contender for mark of the year, similar to Winston Abrahams mark in Canberra(remember that?).

Look out dorkers, here we come!!!

What a game! The Eagles withhold a late charge to steady and put the Saints away. Wilson beats four opponents to kick a bag. Phil Matera stars on return. Kerr pulls in a deadset screamer. And the Roo burst from half back to set up one of Phil's goals was a joy to behold.

Have to also say that Harvey showed today why he's one of the stars of the comp. He turned the momentum of the game single-handedly

Also have to say that the umpiring was absolutely shithouse. They appear to be giving forwards free kicks again after not doing it all year

Well .... im relieved and somewhat deleriously happy

After all the good work to get in front they charged in the final quarter (shitting my pants at this stage) with Harvey and the Saints fans leading the charge but we stood up and took there best punches. Usually we would have let them overhaul us but not this new and exciting young Eagles team we have today. I thought we played great. Now a few points.

Kemp came back and was eased back into AFL footy quite well. Look for him to be almost back to his best come the derby. His leadership being the elder of the two captains was appreciated and i seemed at ease with him just being out there even though he didnt really impact the game that much. Welcome back Tommy.

Another comeback ... little Joey Matera!! He was awesome, it was like he didnt miss a beat. Always looked dangerous when he got near it and gave a good return kicking 4 goals.

Wilson was sensational! WHY THE HELL DIDNT WE PICK THIS GUY UP WHEN HE WAS 20!!! He amazingly kicked 7 goals 6 points so it could have easily been a huge bag. He wont keep Cummings out of the side but i will be very happy with him running out of a forward pocket or in the half forward line. Kept us one step ahead of the Saints all game long.

Our Defence was great. Jakovich i thought shut his critics up virtually taking Loewe out of the game. Wirrpunda is looking better and better every game, McIntosh was very solid in his 200th and Collica and Morrison were reliable again. Peter Matera was probably BOG with his run from defence and looked like he was 20 years old. Wirrpunda is an excitment machine but glimpes from Matera in that game reminded me of the immense talents of this guy. I think he could go down as one of the greatest players never to win a brownlow!

Kerr continues to impress and is making it impossible for selectors to take him out of the team. He only had 11 disposals but he took an absolute screamer and contender for mark of the year, but an interesting stat is his tackling. He had 5 tackles in the game and he is 5th in the league in tackles with 12 through round 3. He isnt afraid to do the hard yards.

Merenda is getting better every game and now has 5 goals in 3 games. What about his goal in the last quarter!!!!! An early contender for goal of the year, if you watched the game you will know which one i mean.

I couldnt find a spot for Williams on friday in my team to take on the Saints but he was great kicking 3 goals and 2 crucial goals at half time and at three quarter time, both just on 50. Fletcher also very good with 22 disposals and has been very consistent.

Gardiner again proving that his is one of, if not THE best ruckman going around. His sidekick

Cox continues to come on in leaps and bounds.

Last but not least Ben Cousins! This guy has to be firming for the brownlow

Racked up another 30 possesions and is 3rd in total diposals in the league behind Buckley and Ratten. He impressed me early when he was being worn pretty well by a tagger (i forget the name) he went into the packs and got the hardball which shows in his stats with 20 handballs to 10 kicks. With Kemps experience and leadership and Cousins leading by example im actually pretty happy the way the captaincy turned out.

PHEW!! But with all that said i refuse to jump the gun. We did only beat last years wooden spooners. So im not saying were going to win the premeirship or anything. But with a tough loss to Geelong who are a good team and a narrow loss to Sydney who are a very good team and now an away win to an improved Saints i think we are in good stead.

GO YOU MIGHTY EAGLES!!!

I'm still high from yesterdays win, and looking at our youngsters coming up and those already playing i can easily say we'll finish in the top 8 in season 2002.

Kerr has to be the best draftee this year, he is absolutely incredible, especially considering he only played school footy. He has basically never played against an opponent over 18yrs of age. He is a great player and a Phil Read in the making.

GO EAGLES!!!!!!!
