2nds West Coast Eagles WAFL Watch 2024

10 AFL-listed players named in the side to play Perth in a scratchy - Barnett, Trew, Hall, Rotham, Johnston, Rawlinson, Burgiel, Baker, Jilliams and Livingstone. Plus I’d expect whoever on the extended bench doesn’t get on the plane tomorrow to play.

Hopefully that’s a bit more indicative of the strength of WAFL sides we’ll see this year.
A few other observations looking at the team sheet:
  • Nice to see Jason Gillbee named for his first unofficial hitout in Eagles colours, keen to watch how he'll go.
  • Harley Sparks also a new face after he didn't play in the first practice match. From the brief glimpses I saw of him during the preseason while training with the AFL squad he looks pretty promising.
  • Luke Yeo a good chance to play for the first time, named on an extended bench.
  • Ruscoe, Spadanuda, Barker, Hutchinson, Narkle, Anderson the WAFL players named in the first practice match that aren't playing this week
  • Nelson, Burke, Levien, Mouritz, O'Sullivan, Watson, Wilson, Avery the WAFL players who haven't been named in either practice match
  • Jed Kemp named in a forward pocket for Perth, gets an early chance to play against his old side

Nelson had a knee brace on a looked fresh off an opp late last season. Could be acl or another long term injury

At quarter time we’re in front by 9 points, been a competitive start. 3.1 (19) plays 1.4 (10)

Livingstone, Maric and Lucassen our goalscorers.

Highlights from first term include good pack marks from Livingstone and Barnett and a terrific play through the middle from Hall, dodging several tackles, running to the 50 and and delivering a nice weighted pass to Maric in the pocket.

1/4 time Eagles lead 3.1 to 1.4

Rawlinson busy.

Livingstone took a few good grabs

Barnett moving better this year ruck work has been pretty good. Hanger on the outer wing was a classic

Hall pretty good, same for Trew in the middle.

Johnston a bit messy with his disposal but got a few touches

Maric quality when he got it.

JJ came to life in the second half of the quarter but heavy rotations

J Williams quiet same as a Rotham

Burgiel had moments

Think we've found one with Rawlinson

Really impressed in the PS games
