So two players traded in and we still have our natural R1 and R2 picks to take to the draft with no one wanting out?

Seems a sensible way to go about it

Daisy signing on and the team lifting a few notches around her has helped. You'd be crazy to want to leave right now. Though I have hoped Daisy being here would help prise at least one player from one of the bigger four clubs out..hasn't happened yet.

Oh well, price must have been too much draft capital wise.
Who else is there any links to?

Her, Slocombe and Skepper were the only players we were ever really linked to. Unless something with Zanker and the Dockers went horribly south, which it didn't.

So how are our changes looking?

Out (not counting Hosking as the 31st player)
Hooker retired, Lindgren and Johnson delisted

In: Skepper, Slocombe, pick 12, pick 30

Still need at least one player to retire or get delisted, Drennan the obvious candidate, not sure what’s going on with McDonald either.

I reckon Daisy's probably received feelers from various big guns about coming to Perth that we haven't heard of. But it would still require us to spend big draft picks, and Daisy's philosophy, now confirmed with this draft, is that she doesn't want to.

Getting Slocombe and Skepper so cheaply is huge, brilliant work by the coaching staff. Those two might not work out, but then they might. Getting big guns is like spending $50 to maybe win $70 tomorrow. Our strategy is like spending $5 to win anything up to $70 in four years time. And in the meantime, we've got lots more cash left over to spend on other players.

Looks like a busy day for plenty of clubs tomorrow, but we’re not mentioned as being involved in any pending deals.

Perhaps my math is off..but do we need to make one more list change? We got two new players and our first and second rounder to come in but have only lost Lindgren who I count as Hosking, Johnson and Hooker? Sophie Mac I assume will be back on the active list next year.

I must be on ignore 😢

They need list spaces apparently

Pardon the intrusion - but this, plus we have a bit of an oversupply of good forwards (especially now that we have both Sophie McKay and Poppy Scholz). Skepper is a good player but wasn’t really in a position to get a game with our current lineup. Hope she goes well at the Eagles.

Thanks for the insight. I don’t have much knowledge of her game, do you have a bit of a cliffs notes scouting report on her as far as her positives/negatives as a player? Did she fall out of favour mainly because of the drafting of McKay/Scholz (plus the impending trade for Boileau, which I assume will get done tomorrow)?

Innately a good athlete and skillful player (hence her being a first round pick back in the day). But yeah, I think we just have better options now - McKay/Scholz both performed incredibly well this year and were only first year players, plus Boileau (fingers crossed), and Claudia Whitford (who we just traded in) I believe is a mid/forward more than a pure mid. On top of that, we have a lot of other good players who aren't full time forwards but contribute forward substantively (eg. both of our gun Irish players in Erone Fitzpatrick and Dayna Finn, then players like Darcy Vescio can still be swung forward if need be, etc.). We're pretty fortunate to be in a strong position forward half, going into 2026.

The only other knock I've heard on Skepper is that she's a country girl who struggled a little in adapting to city life and balancing that against professionalism. Similar issues to Harley Reid at the start of this year I think, but like Harley has managed to come back from that (but perhaps not in time to make the team anymore given the players listed above).

Cheers BluesForEternity. Our last two first round picks (Rentsch and Painter) are both Vic country girls and have become best mates so maybe she can fall in with them and settle in.

I feel more excited about Slocombe than Skepper, maybe just because of Slocombe being more of a shiny new toy which hasn't really been used much whereas Skepper seemed to fall out of favour with a club not far from us on the ladder and now has been despatched for the equivalent of steak knives. I assume she is better than some of the others towards the bottom of our list which makes the deal worth doing.

As for our overall trade period, I feel slightly disappointed that there wasn't a move made for more of an impact player but I can certainly understand the thinking. There's a not-insignificant gap between us and the top tier of teams in the comp (in addition to the gulf between North and everybody else) and that gap isn't going to be closed in one offseason with the acquisition of a Zanker or Prowse or Boileau, so maybe it's the right course to just keep improving organically with the young list. I'm also emphatically in favour of stockpiling assets (good young players and future picks) in case Zippy Fish decides to come home next offseason, because she's one of the few players who is well worth paying a heavy price for.

Gibbo had her best year this season imo, but she can't have much left in the tank. Western who knows how long she has, depending on how the knee recovery will go. Painter will be spending less time up front. There's absolutely holes in the list for smaller forwards. I'm pretty stoked with the highlights package from Skepper, with that speed she'll be a long term player imo. Think I'm more excited for her given the clear need.

We are building a bit of a country girl mob like Ilka mentioned above, lol. Riggsy has the personality vibe too.
