And yet if you had bothered to look on the Drafts and Trading board you'd see that other teams supporters thought the trades we were putting up were thought to be closer to the mark than your efforts...

You must have been disappointed with the Hudson/Meesen trades, hey?

I'm laughing with the Meesen trade now, the Hudson one we got done, but hey, we wern't really in any position to bargain because the bullies could have got him for nothing.

ok all,

first post ever, following many months reading the Adelaide thread.

If Graham leaves we can recover. We lose Basset and Johncock and make room for a decent trade and a draft. From all accounts this year is a great draft. Personally I believe that we did well out of last years draft and we should fair just as well with similar opportunities this year.

The curve-ball in trading Stiffy is the Didak factor. We need a creative and effective forward. Macca and Porps are consistently creative and effective.....but not many else. Let me qualify this by saying many given opportunity and milliseconds to convert, fail a majority of the time......Macaa & Porps the exception.

Therefore we get involved in a 3-way Trade ..... Stiffy to Port .....something meaningful to the Pies and Didak to the Crows. New anti=biker gang laws have been passed in SA, so what do we have to loose......:D

Seriously, Graham has got issues and his footy is suffering.....you can blame team rules all you like.....but he agreed to them, along with everyone else....his issues are obviously outside the club.

I say....we are at our strength on the draft/trade table, so honour his service and replace him with better, faster and smarter.

I wasn't talking about now, I was talking about at the time. (By the way, I still laugh at someone telling me that McGregor would be successfully traded when he wanted out last year. I'd like to ask him what happened :D)

The point is that everyone has a sentimental attachment to players, and thereby overrates them. Luckily for us the list managers for AFL clubs are paid not to be so emotional and realise that sometimes it's best to cut your losses with a player that either a) doesn't want to be there or b) doesn't perform as well as you'd hope.

Although sometimes with option b, you can facilitate a trade which allows the player to get a second chance (witness Sydney with Mattner and you guys with Symes).

Ask yourself, if Johncock was injured for an extended period, would the team suffer dramatically?

Bullies did us on the Hudson trade, there is/was no denying that, hopefully we still managed to draft a couple of good players with those picks. The Meesen one, again we were hamstrung by the preseason draft, where there was the possibility of losing him for nothing and Meesen did and probably still does have the ability to be a top class ruckman, sadly for him, he hasn't been able to capitalise on his ability. I'm laughing at the fact that we managed to on trade his pick for Moran and actually make something of him, rather than nothing.

Thing is with Mcgregor, is that he would have been traded had the Crows not upped their offer, clubs were interested and the Crows suddenly decided they really did want Mcgregor. Perhaps a mistake in hindsight for both the Crows and Mcgregor as we didn't need a CHB.

Yes we do suffer without Johncock, our ability to clear the ball from defence effectively, especially from kickouts, suffered majorly when Johncock went out of form and was later dropped. In form, he is one of the most composed players coming out of defense and will always hit a good target. Stiffy up and firing is vital to our side, especially with Mcleod in his last year or 2. Yes its sad he can't make it into the midfield, but early in the season he was on track to win AA selection. People have short memories, hopefully getting dropped was the kick up the bum he needed to get his career back in shape.

Im as big a fan of stiffy as the next crows fan, but if hes been dropped from the leadership group, has off field incidents, smokes weed, drinks heavy, and obviously has gained weight and will never be fit enough to play the midfield role in which his talent would be most useful, let him go.

He WAS an AA backline player. I think its more than a form slump hes going through. He isnt that player at the moment, and will only get it back if he wants it bad enough. 2008 was a bad year for stiffy. Love to see him stay and sort his stuff out.

Gossip trade rules

1/- It's highly unlikely to be true
2/- Rumours are good for selling newspapers
3/- Leaks from a club is usually just hot air escaping
4/- Player managers earn their living by being sly
5/- Club staff specialise in talking but saying nothing

Johncock wants to be traded? I'll believe it when I see the trade happen (BTW, Port will not trade selection 4)

What if it was for Franklin?

Given his treatment after his family problems this does not surprise me.

Could this be the big player that Williams has been trying to lure over since the "State of Origin" game.

Port Supporters were hoping for Kerr (Will be at Carlton I reckon) but get Stiffy.

A realistic trade could be round 2 pick plus Thomson.

What if it was for Franklin?

For Buddy Franklin the Hawks could have our 1st, 2nd & 3rd round picks, but we both know that Buddy aint going anywhere, so neither is Port's 1st round draft pick, at least sure as hell it wont be used to get Johncock.

Can't beleive the club would let stiffy go. Not without a hell of a fight. He is the best player in the league in his position. Who else can you compare him to?

Shaw? Please.

If stiffy requests it, and makes me cry myself to sleep for a month, then I'd suggest we could use him as part of a 3 way with port and collingwood to get Didak here.

What were they doing?
Over in the west I haven't heard any rumblings, thought Johncock would have been a one club player...
Johncock is worth a first round pick (4). But if traded with Port, a big IF, we wont get it so the "market" rate, given it is meant to be a super draft, will be second round plus player.

Well, this thread was a wave of emotion!

You know, it got me thinking... how unrealistic is Johncock + pick 10 for pick 4 and 22? (If he was actually going to be traded). I'm not actually sure who the biggest loser is here. Port really need someone like Johncock in their backlines, and pick 10 will still be a very good player in this draft.... but on the other hand, Port could really use Vickery and pick 22 will probably turn out pretty good too.

The other issue is the Rendell factor. Imagine we traded in such a way that we upgraded pick 10 to pick 3 last year. We would have taken Dangerfield either way, if Matty's comments are to be trusted (and assuming that Kreuzer and Cotchin were his #1 and #2). If he has a similar set of ratings this year there is little point in "upgrading a draft pick" only to end up with the same player.

Agreed. Stiffy is going nowhere.

Johncock going reports 'rubbish,' say Crows

ADELAIDE Football Club tonight issued the most emphatic rebuff ever heard from West Lakes to dismiss a television report of Graham Johncock crossing the great divide to Port Adelaide. The Crows described the report of Johncock – who is on contract to Adelaide next season – seeking a trade to the Power as "fabricated nonsense with no substance".
"Graham's part of our fabric, we're keen to keep him and any thought of him not being here next year is absolute rubbish – can I make that any clearer?" said Crows football operations chief John Reid tonight.

Johncock, 25, had a difficult season at Adelaide this year when he had to be stood down by the leadership group to refocus after a difficult series of off-field events.

Johncock's manager Ben Williams tonight dismissed the report saying: "It is total fabrication."

A television report in Adelaide flagged Johncock being traded to the Power in a mix of a second-round draft pick and to-be-cut Port midfielder Adam Thomson.

Is Ben Williams the manager for most Adelaide based players now? Seems to me that any issue arising seems to come from his stable eg. Brogan, Purgoyne, Stiffy.

Just hearing craig on the radio, I am not 100 percent convinced that there is no basis to this rumour. Craig kept making that point that Graham has not said anything to him about it etc and that until he hears something different from Graham he wouldnt think otherwise.

I agree Relapse, i heard it and it was far from an emphatic denial. I know if i was senior coach, and i heard that rumour, I'd be all over it like a rash and at least find out the full details from a messenger even if i didn't speak to the player directly.

Where there's smoke...;)
