Cant disagree with this, reckon your side is very similar to what mine would be. Only changes would be that if Simmo is fit, he will start... Patrick Bowden will be in the backline and (unfortunately) Tivendale will be playing.
Might be fit but I just don't see Simmo being fit enough to ruck from start to finish, I think give Knobel the first 5-7 minutes a quarter and then let Simmo work around the ground. PB might be used up forward as Wallace had planned for him to play there last year until necessity had he moved down back. Can get on his own quite often and as a lead up HF could be quite damaging. Tivendale will probably get Hyde/Meyer position.

It looked to me like TW was'nt coaching to win today, it appeared as if he was experimenting with the NAB 15 winners, to see where their best fitting is.
I don't think he wanted us to go to Darwin

In his interview after the game he said he wanted to see who could play and who could not guess that answers the question, add to that he was conducting interviews with the 10 commentators 10 mins into each quarter and you could see he was not too concerned about the result.

:) Two words.....NAB Cup!!!

Care factor zero!!!

Anyone else notice that West Coast, Sydney, Adelaide, St Kilda and Melbourne all lost.

Yep, write the season off for those teams too!!!

Gross over reaction.

Eight or nine players to come back into the side...mickey mouse rule changes!!!

Irrelevant!!

******** l hate our supporters, nothing but a whinging pack of homo's. Its the first hit out in a pre-season game - Feb 25 - and already have a look at you.

Grow up and take it for what it was, a game getting the cob-webs out. I couldnt give a ******** if we had've got done by 200 points, its about preparation for Round one, not a rubbish competition that no one really takes seriously.

Lets not lose sight of the fact that we won a wooden spoon only 44 games ago, yet we still bag our side for losing to a full strength (certain top 4 side) in a practice match.

Get a life.

hear hear:thumbsu:

funny that, because if you take away the two goals geelong got when they hit the post and it bounced back into play and the extra 9 points they got from super goals, (not to mention the two goal turnaround when krak marked it deep in the fifty and it wasnt paid then the cats rebounded and goaled) we wouldnt have lost by much at all.

The only good sign was the form of Polak, but we're unlikely to play finals this year...again.

whether or not we play finals will depend on the scale of injuries we get through the season.

We are one of those teams that could finish between 6th and 10th depending on who and how many cop injuries.

If we avoid too many season ending injuries, we're playing finals. Otherwise, whether you like it or not, Wallace and Miller will come under question. You dont get a free reign for so long without questions being asked at our club. This is Wallace's third season and Miller's 5th. We know by the end of this year whether we chose wisely to put all of or chips on them.

If you are going to bag the Tambling over Franklin thing then you should also be bagging Deledio. Griffen is so much better than him its funny.

Is that why deledio has the rising star award on his mantle and not griffen?.

TW will be a 10+ year tiger coach. 5 years to mould the team and the next 5 to reap the accolades and benefits from it. Take a look at the team and overall it has nearly been totally turned over and that in only 2 and a bit years. Its all about balancing results along with the rebuild.
The fab 5 are the foundation, and everything since, is adding to the foundation. ;)

Very astsute there, Darth! Couldn't agree more. Beats me why they trial rules like play on after hitting the post and then abandon them before the season proper!
Ridiculous!!!

I agree 100%
He is not going to be worth his no.1 draft pick playing HB getting easy possessions he needs to play midfield.

That might be true eventually, but there is nothing wrong with 2-3 seasons on the HBF. Andrew McLeod, Gavin Wanganeen and Peter Matera proved you can be an elite match-winner playing that spot. I doubt too many would say that David King was wasted on the HBF. Kennelly has been a key to the Swans in the running defender role. Simon Goodwin was an elite HBF before he became a fulltime midfielder.

To some degree you want your most skillful users of the ball away from the banging and crashing. On a HBF Deledio could get 25-30 touches every week and cut teams up.

What would you prefer, Pat Bowden getting 25 touches in the BP and shuffling sideways and slowing the ball down - or Deledio getting those touches and combing with Raines to turn defence into attack in a heartbeat?

I suppose those teams have been winning games recently so are more able to dismiss a bad result as a blip.

That said last year's NAB Cup saw West Coast and Sydney lose in the first round and Geelong go on to win the Cup.

thats crap

hey if we had the eagles midfield deledio would rip it up on a flank but the fact is we need to build our team around this youngster and thats why he belongs in the middle

the quicker deledio, raines, foley, polo and tambling are all in the middle the better because instead of them running out of the backline they will be able to run inside 50 and kick a goal which is way better

Well i disagree! We have Kingsley and Schulz to play as back up fowards for richo we just didn't see that today. For Simmonds we have Knobel, he is a crap player but a good tap ruckman we won most of the centre clearances today.

Guys dont under rate Tambling he will come good!
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Our midfield is the worst area for us. We can't tackle, we are so small and weak. Like I said in another thread, we have so much pace (well, apparently) but NEVER use it.

At least we didn't lose to Carlton ;)

BTW, our starting 3 in the middle was Krak, Foley and Polo...so we are using them there...let them get used to eachother as individual players and to how Terry wants them to play footy. They are all still learning how to be midfielders.

dudo, get with the page. TW can do anything he likes in my book. When he makes the finals, whenever he does, i want a flag, not just make up numbers by default, so dudes like you can pull their puds, thinking about next year. You see, if you dont win a granny, then you have failed. ;)

You dont win a granny without consistent finals experience.

Another example of your lack of football credibility

naaa, where you miss it mr crediblity is, that when you build a young side that win's a granny, without the consistent final's experience, you tend to have an era of consistent success and dominance, that sets the bar for the other try hards. Do you understand that Mr credibilty? That way, the club makes mega dollars for a long time, just like another club that has the same jumper with a red sash did, you also become arrogant supporters that others hate, but long to be like and everything falls into place. I see you have forgotten what it was like in the 70s for us. We were that side and Sheeds knew what to do with the bummers.
So when you dive into the doldrums, like all clubs do for a while, you dont have to rattle tins etc, like we tended to do, as well as they tended to do, before their coach saw what was "required". ;)

You're clearly delusional if you think teams after struggling to play in finals suddenly walk in and win a granny

Cogga Rules = Phantom

naaa I am not delusional, I look at being number 1 and staying number 1 and anything below that is a failure. You on the other hand, you clearly have an inferiority complex. I guess you havent rid yourself of the ********eness of the years before TW. You still think Spud is coaching. ;)

Of course we still have problems, we are a developing team.

I believe TW has succumbed to pressure and prematurely declared our run for the 8 in 2007. I think this is at least a year too soon.

Although most the smalls are developing well, we still have a long way to go. With Deledio being the exception, Polo, Foley, Tambling, Howat still need at least another 50 games under their belts to start delivering at a consistent AFL level. Meyer and White still need lots of perseverance and JON, Graham and McGuane are closer to 3 seasons away from high level consistency if at all.

The talls are what worries me, as the TW gameplan although based on 14 speedsters still requires 6 good rebounding talls. With a major drop-of after Richo and Simmonds we need some fast track development over the coming years. Polak and maybe Schultz could be a quick answer but after that again we are waiting another 2-3 years.

I think we are talking finals football from 2009-14 and reality is that it will require replacements for Richo, Johnson, Bowden, Brown and Simmonds along the way.
