Surprised no one has started a thread about this before but after listening to the Crow Cast it’s reminded me about how Eddie has been out of form since mid - late last year.

Has Eddie hit the wall? Is he done? Have other teams worked out how to shut him down?

Trying to do too much at the moment, particularly flying for stupid marks, because he's getting no support.

Need to get back to the basics. Staying down, crumbing, snapping goals, dishing off assists

The man is a legend, but needs to stay at ground level.
His attempts at mark of the century in the last quarter on Friday night cost us as he took our player/s out also.

It’s been a long bad patch of form and I’m scratching my head as to why. CC leaving would’ve hurt and his loss of from did seem to coincide with rumblings CC wasn’t happy.

Too many family distractions? Would be taking alot of his time and energy! Hopefully just a bad patch of form. Agree has to go back to basics.
This, the thought of having twins takes it out of you, just wait till there here and he’s playing SANFL.

Absolutely , they need to get him back to a mindset of 3 inside 50 tackles , crumbing and goal assists . This will free up the pressure to kick goals .
The loss of Cameron is a huge one for our forward line pressure ... his impact was vastly underrated by alot of people .

One option for both he and Jenkins is for those 2 to tandem so it forces JJ make the contest to bring EB into the game and crumbing . Jenkins can also make use of his frame and split some packs and or provide a subtle block out which will allow Eddie to jump in controlled manner with support instead of the unrealistic kamikaze s..t of the last 15-20 games . Jenkins is also good on the ground and has a pace advantage over most tall D's over 20 .

I would also play Atkins forward and give him the incentive to tackle ... he has good goal sense and the chance of one will make him chase .
He is soft as shit upfield and i like an instinctive lefty goal kicker in our F50

Been worried for the exact same time. Had 32 goals up to the bye last seasons, only kicked 22 in the second half with half of those goals coming in 3 games alone. His GF was appalling, for all the heat Tex got Eddie was worse, some sense gotten away with murder. Needs to go back to basics, stay at ground crum the ball of the packs and be less unselfish, take the responsibility and put it through the big sticks.

Age and bathwater.

Mostly bathwater. Still life in the old beast but needs to focus more than before.

1. Sit him down and have a talk about his role in the team.

2. Get him off the radio. Nothing good ever comes from these regular radio spots. At a loss as to why we do it.

In all fairness, last year he had the appendicitis thingy which would have impacted on his running in the subsequent games post-surgery.
Regarding this year, I think we're forgetting Eddie plays well because of our forward line structure. We're missing Tex and Lynch, which no doubt there is a synergy between this trio. JJ and McGovern are the other keys, and they were like Betts, noone really looked right without the 2 other forwards.
I think we're best to see what happens with Eddie when Tex and Lynch returns. That would be a more suitable comparison of his form with last year and this one.

Not worried.

But we need to be planning for life after Eddie whilst hes still here and playing decent football.

We like to wait till something is well and truly an issue rather than looking at opportunities to transition smoothly.

I think talk of him being done is premature. I also think talk of him being out of form is a little skewed. There have been more than a few occasions dating back to mid-last season that he has gifted goals to JJ and others when he easily could have piled up statistics for himself.

Is his age something to be on watch for? Yes

However, I am of the belief, as others have shared above, that he felt a distinct need to do to much Friday night. I think with Tex and Lynch out he got a bit caught up in trying to do the spectacular instead of being himself and letting the game come to him.

With those boys back in the lineup this week---he will be just fine.

Is anything wrong with Eddie?

We have only played one game, let’s just pause for a couple more games before assessing where Eddie is at
I thought Eddie was ok ... he played around the ball more than normal, where his ball handling showed itself as top notch as usual.

He missed a couple of goals he should have nailed, but I don't reckon he had many opportunities to crumb with the forwards we had on the ground.

I don't think Eddie has a self-centred bone in his body, so all the "bath water" calls are really strange.

Except for his high flying when he never marks it.

Yeah he is much better when someone else flies for the impossible mark and he picks up the loose ball...

He turns 32 at the end of the year. We were all hoping he could keep his form up for longer but I think its looking like its heading towards the end quicker than we hoped. Maybe we should have looked harder at getting a Motlop type. Especially after losing Cameron

As I wrote in another thread, we couldn't take a grab up forward to save ourselves. Bombers had 19 marks inside 50 to our 10. I think Eddie had little choice but to try and make a contest. To be honest I think our forward structure at centre bounces is often to blame, we see a quick kick forward to CHF, and all our guys are bunched up, and it appears to favour the opposition more times than not, as they seem better equipped in the air (certainly our last two games at least). I'd prefer to see our coaches mix it up and leave our best marking forward free at CHF (Gov?) and try and create some room for the likes of Eddie. This, of course, is predicated on the fact that the opposition don't play a loose man there. If they do, then by all means man them up, but personally I don't like the bunched up structure we seem to regularly employ.
