Where's he at?

Has certainly been overtaken by Spangher. The recruitment of Morton adds to our fwd stocks. Walsh will be looking to play rd1 (I'm assuming down back). Everitt is a supposed "utility" but it looks like our recruiting team have made Everitt even more redundant.

He is only 22 so he may take another year or two to develop but it's hard to see him getting into the best 22 in 2012.

Walsh is playing forward according to the coach

I think he could be of value to us up forward given he plays as a 3rd tall but it's gonna be hard for him to get a spot I think. As has been said, Spangher played that role far better than Everitt did during his time in the side, Walsh seems very likely to start the year at FF and Morton has more runs on the board as a 3rd tall/HFF than Andrejs does as well.

I don't want him in defence certainly. We don't need him there as we have better options as rebounders and as pure defenders (and he got beaten far too often down there in 2011). As I say, I think he could be of value up forward but he has to show that he's of more value than Morton/Walsh/Spangher/Rohan which I find hard to see happening personally.

Yes, what about Everitt. He isn't exactly a Forward. More so a backline or an outside wingman build. Doesn't need to be in the Forward line at all. Only reason I can see that he ever was there would be because we had no depth.

Huh? Hes 193 cm, well built, beautiful long kick with decent agility, he's exactly what we need for the forward line if he could live up to his potential

Problem is that he lacks in his intensity and attack on the ball.

He has already shown at Bulldogs and Swans that he doesn't have the ability to go man on man in the backline and he's simply doesn't have the pace, endurance or smarts to play in the midfield, particularly in today's game where he would be torn to shreds on the rebound

I wouldn't state that someone who is 193cm with a beautiful long kick is a definant forward. Sounds more to me a rebounding defender. Just because you have a beautiful long kick doesn't mean you can convert goals.

Your correct on the first point but:

1. We are in dire need of a quality tall forward and he has shown that he is a beautiful shot for goal

2. He simply isn't agile enough to be a rebounding defender, if he is to play in defence he has to be key position and he has proven time and time again that he can't compete body on body with tall forwards

3. We already have a million candidates on the list for the rebounding defender role who would all perform better than AE

4. I simply can't see any slots opening up for him elsewhere on the ground

All of this is prefaced with whether he can actually lift his game and make an impact at senior level next year at all

With Sphanger, Morton and Walsh I don't see him getting a shot as a Tall Forward either. I hope Walsh plays out of FF and unless we're going to play 3 tall forwards, I really dont know what else to say.

I am a little bit optimistic about Everitt. To me he is the sort of person who will fill out properly at 23 yo which will enhance his ability one on one and improve his agility. It will also help improve his self confidence which I think is his major problem. Such a beautiful kick will also be handy as a "press buster" and as a forward when the match ups suit.

He needs to pull his finger out. He's got some natural ability but he spends a lot of time waiting for the game to come to his strengths. Hopefully he can turn it around. It would be good to see if he could get some old school HFF flank time in the pre season to see if he can take a couple of marks and hit the power forwards off the boot. If he can finds a niche like this he may find his way back in the door.

and get some mongrel.

But we agree we're all ahead on the trade???

Pretty even in my mind. Everitt played more games in 2011 than Vez but Vez finished the year in the Dogs' 22 and Everitt finished the year in Canberra so that would seem to indicate Vez is a better shot of finding a spot in his team's 2012 best side.

A bit of conjecture there but so be it.

As has been said, Spangher played that role far better than Everitt did during his time in the side

I dunno thats not so certain, when Everitt was moved forward to fill a need he stood up, even winning a game off his own boot so to speak in about the same time frame as people are judging Spangher on., if only he could be more consistent, didnt he also get injured?

Everitt did get hurt and had to play as the sub a few times so that obviously limited his ability to perform well to some extent but I think it was pretty clear cut that Spangher's contribution to our forward line was greater than what Andrejs provided. Spangher's eagerness and will to throw his body around into contests, stronger marking and clean skills made for that IMO.

To say Everitt won a game off his own boot is stretching it a bit too IMO. He kicked one goal in that quarter and had some important touches certainly but Goodes and Rohan made just as important contributions to allow us to win that game.

Personally, I don't think we've seen the best of Everitt. He shown some glimpses of brilliance early in the year, especially up forward, but he got shifted around and made sub too many times, which is just pointless, and wrecked his confidence. And remember, he was injured for the second half of the year, so he didn't have a chance to press his claim for a best 22 spot towards the end of the season.

The guy has talent, and I'm not sure attitude is as much his problem as just confidence. If his preseason consists of him training as a HFF/wingman then I think he'll show some form. He doesn't have the body strength to be a key defender, I think we can see that, but his height gives him a real advantage on the lead, and having him take big marks on the wing would be really handy. He's also quick enough to use it in general play.

What's more, playing as a wingman will allow him to take a few marks within scoring distance, and he can convert.

As for who he'll replace on a wing, I really don't want to be the person that makes that decision. Whatever the case, if he can start getting ball and taking marks on the wing, it will help the balance of our side immensely.

I don't think that the Vez for Everitt swap is the type you can pick a winner. If Vez goes on to be a great player, I can guarantee he wouldn't have been a great player if he stayed in Swans colours. Likewise, the same for Everitt. Both players needed fresh starts at the time which is the rationale for the trade rather than each club trying to take a risk to get the best possible player.

In terms of Everitt next year, I think he's a fair way back from a full strength 22. I'd say the Swans will play Morton or Spangher in the 22 with the other one to be on the cusp of the best team. Everitt then falls behind that. He'll need an injury to break into the side in my opinion.
