What are the question marks over your team in 2022?

Your list is a bigger concern

I don't expect other clubs supporters to know the nuances of our list, but here a few reasons why Hawks fans might be 'overrating' their ability heading in to 2022.

Clarko was pretty keen on playing his favourites even when the season was lost.

Despite this, Reeves, Brockman, Kosi, Bramble, Newcombe, Downie, DGB and Jeka all debuted. A few in particular look like genuine 10-15 year players.

Younger players in Jiath and Moore had stretches of form that would have had them in All Australian discussions. Not a biased call. They surprised all of us too.

Our VFL side, the one Sam Mitchell was coaching, finished 3rd and were the second highest scoring team. To come full circle with the first point, this was with a core group of young players that Clarko still seemed hesitant at points to bring up to the seniors for a long stretch of time. Our depth is there. The interesting part will be if Sam backs in his young players such as Maginness, Jeka, Downie and the very strong draft crop we acquired.

Our midfield depth. It’s a possibility that our midfield will be fine if we see a couple of players (like RCD, Martin and Ross) make a large impact. However, this isn’t guaranteed. That’s why there is a question mark on it.

Our KPF stock also concerns me because it’s pretty much only Riewoldt, Lynch and then a bunch of rucks that can play this position.

If Dusty, Prestia and Bolton play 75 of 75 Richmond will make top-4. If in addition Grimes, Vlastuin, Lynch and Nankervis barely miss we will give the flag a real shake.
Yeah nah.

Lynch averaged as many goals as Ben Brown did btw. Dees managed without Brown- good depth must be?

If Danger, Hawkins and Stewart player 75 of 75 the Cats will contend. If Cameron, Parfitt, Duncan and Henry barely miss the Cats will contend.
Nope. Geelong are old and not very good.

If 2-3 of Gawn, Lever, May, Petracca, Oliver, Viney and Salem miss big chunks the Demons won’t be winning the flag.
Lose two or three of our top 8 players, and we’re still good enough to win enough games to make finals.

Out of interest, have you seen Luke Jackson play? Not sure there’s another club which has a better ruck replacement.

Yep , losing Coleman Jones and Chol means you have lost your depth. How the system works isn't it? IMO they will need a very good run with injury to contend again. Not out of the question though.

LOL

New coach, new game plan, young rebuilding list. Ruck set up?

Yes there will be a lot of preparing.

Just be prepared for another bottom 4 finish.
It’s clear that you’ve made up your mind about a list that you know little about.

That's the thing, there are now more unknown & unproven players on the Hawks list... along with the loss of the best modern day coach. Not many players you could say for certainty will be A graders.

Hawks have not had the same number of early rounds picks as other rebuilding sides as Clarko was using many for trading players in.

Imo, Hawks currently have the worst list & strong contender for the spoon.

Who do you think has a worse list?

New coach yes, New gameplan somewhat but he's been at our club, we were young and rebuilding last year aswell.

Ruck setup the same if not better.

Be prepared to be surprised ;)

Well you for starters..

The Crows have the youngest & most inexperienced list... but imo we & Roos have better quality young talent than the Hawks.

I'm expecting us to finish around the same spot as 2021. I doubt we will go backwards but it is possible.

Our list at this stage, whether you count youth or everything is better than yours.

We'll finish higher than both you and North while being a similar list age.

I think our youth and whole side is better than yours, North probably just has us on youth maybe.

In time I expect you will be proven very wrong.

Name me the players you consider will be A grade talent.

I can't really say "expect" because any player could be, but the ones who've proven at this stage are players like Day, Jiath, Scrimshaw but there's many more with Worpel, (Ward), other draftees like MacDonald and Butler with Moore, Lewis, Jeka, Bramble and so on.

That's the thing... the Hawks don't have the same number of high end picks compared to Crows & Roos... & i don't see the same level of likely top end talent.

Whislt early draft picks are no guarantee to quality, the odds are in their favour.

Last year we played all of our previous year draftees & they all look like they will be long term options...including Thilthorpe who looks like he could end up being one of the guns of the competition in a few years. I don’t see anyone on the Hawks list in his class.

Well look at one of your latest top end picks in McAsey, it just proves top end doesn't always mean top picks.

If i had my choice i'd name our entire under 24 list haha

Nice diversionary tactic - how about you answer my question.

Also, crazy writing off McAsey after 2 years... as talls usually take longer to develop.

Whether some of our younger guys can step up to become reliable contributors & following Jones' retirement whether Young or McDonald can step up to fill the void.

No idea who Young is but as someone who has seen every game Oscar MacDonald has played I can tell you with complete confidence that he isn't fit to fill a thing.

Jordon Gallucci, Chayce Jones, Fisher MacAsey, Ned McHenry
Vs
James Worpel, Dylan Moore, Changkouth Jiath, Lachie Bramble

Recent Adelaide first rounders vs a pick 45, pick 67, a category B rookie and a supplemental pre-season selection.

Tell me honestly which group you'd prefer based on output at AFL level.

You're also proving that you haven't watched Will Day closely at all if you don't think Hawthorn has a player of such class on their list.

PS. Kosi scored the 3 votes on Brownlow night in the famous Thillthorpe debut game.

He's shown nothing tho, they won't be a finished product but they'll show something, at a reserve or AFL level. DGB has shown something. Lower picks have shown something even as talls.
