Brent Weeks "Night Angel" trilogy is very good Hojuman, in fact I just finished "Night Angel Nemesis" at Christmas.

Where you buying ? I first started at Space Age books in Swanston st. before they morphed into Minotaur at various spots in town. Their old MSD store in Elizabeth st. my favourite. But they have a very poor selection at their new store. Buying mostly 2nd hand now at ABE books online.

Depends on what I'm looking for, but I buy mostly from my local bookshop, if they don't have it, they order it in etc (I like to support them as they're a family run small business). I love going into sell and swap bookstores, you never know what you'll find. Minotaur is a go to for sure when I'm in Melbourne.... as are many other book stores when I'm there, actually there's one in Lygon St I quite like, can't think of the name, maybe Readings? Online I use ABE also, or Book Depository (or Bookdp as it's now known) and Amazon occasionally.

Lately I've been using Audible for audio books, (sometimes with my work, it's easier to do an audio book rather than a paper book), but if I like the book I've listened to, I buy a copy anyway.

My eldest is a builder/cabinet maker, he's making me 2 custom made bookshelves from Huon Pine he's acquired.... I'm still waiting

Nice Salvatore's 👍
Readings got a few stores about. Best 2nd hand store l found was in Warnambool a few years back. Huge selection of Fantasy & Sci-fi. Not sure if it's still in business. Clunes has a whole book weekend coming up soon.

Pillars of the Earth, by Ken Follet. It's 40 years old, still an excellent read.

It has started my new enthusiasm about medieval cathedral architecture. Yes I am an intense need.
I quote again but anyway…

I couldn’t agree more.

A month or two ago I was reading articles about the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral. Bizarrely, I understood the descriptions of trancepts, naves and flying buttresses.

I’m not a religious person, but if the belief in a higher power motivates people to achieve something so amazing then I’m all for it.

An (at first) imaginative trawl though Melbourne's streets and alleys with nods to the people they were named after. The writing style gets a bit same-ish after a while but even though the fictional story part gets repetitive, there's still enough tidbits to find out about the the people the CBD's streets are named after.

I'm currently reading the Landmark Julius Caesar, the Complete Works covering the Gallic War, Civil War, Alexandrian War, African War, and Spanish War. Pretty heavy reading, but loving the details of the campaigns.

Ha, posting that link I realise the review is by Neal Ascherson, who is himself a very good writer. Very much enjoyed his history/travelogue about the Black Sea.

Tony Judt, Thinking the 20th Century (2012). It is very good so far.

Man, that seems like a book that you could read several times… I had to read the review twice.

I’ve read Snyders Bloodlands and it’s lead me to having a few friendly (****ing terrible term considering the topic) arguments with SLF.

Interesting you say that, as I was reading it I was thinking exactly that - this is a book I could read multiple times.

Have added Bloodlands to my list!
