We've done music and tv, so I thought I'd find out what everybody's been reading, is reading or who are your favourite authors.
I know some will post porno mags and other stuff, but it would be good to keep this as informative as possible.

Last book I read was 'A Secret Country' by John Pilger. I currently have two books on the go......'Glue' by Irvine Welsh and 'The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying' by Sogyal Rinpoche.

Anyway, let's hear what the people of Big Footy are reading.

Currently I'm reading two books, 'Tully' by Paulina Simmons and for year 11 VCE, 'MacBeth'.

'Tully' is a fantastic book so far, but the best books I have ever read are 'Angela's Ashes' by Frank McCourt and 'The Power of One' by Bryce Courtenay.

Good topic SLH

If you like Forensic Crime Fiction - I highly recommend Kathy Reichs and Patricia Cornwall.

For tongue in cheek - bounty hunting chick stuff - Any of the 7 books of Janet Evanovich......funny stuff!

Had just finished 2x Michael Connelly books in 'The Poet' and "Blood Work" - fantastic stuff.

I go to a local book exchange and was put off by the lady saying "look at the front it is an 'oprah book club' book" but ended up taking it anyway.....

She's Come Undone, by Wally Lamb........

My recommendation, unless you are prepared to find near the end there are some amazing self revelations, and you have the time to wallow and cry and face yourself in the writing....then don't read it!

Otherwise - best thing I have read in a long long long time.

Well I've just finished 'The Grapes of Wrath' by John Steinbeck which was a bit depressing & a bit serious so I've just started a book about a guy who loses his girlfriend due to his addiction to pornography-hehe.

when i get time... Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco

(inbetween reading a heap of nutrition research that I am lecturing on in the upcoming weeks.)

What am I reading? The most godawful boring scientific publications about the homology modelling of G-protein coupled receptors, mutagenesis data of the human C5a receptor, and the NMR conformations of small peptides containing gamma turns.

Asleep yet?

Sbagman.

Nope...

but have been taken back 12 years to Mr Smith's Chemistry classes where I first heard of peptides, the affect of all sorts of chemicals on receptors and the 'mutagenesis data' as you put it, of genetics.....(btw Mr Smith also taught Biology which is where some memories will come from here too - but still the poor man had had a nervous breakdown 3 years earlier, and was now teaching at an all girls school - where in bio - he couldnt' say the word 'testes' or 'testicles' without his voice cracking very badly...as you can imagine, he was back having rest the very next year)

oh dear to be that young again........

Im currently reading 'The Doug Walters Story' which is a fantastic autobiography. I just finished 'The life of a satanist: Anton Lavey' which was another fantastic autobography.

Best book ive read tho is 'The Long Hard Road to Hell: An autobiography of Maralyn Manson'.

All good reads

Here's another of my faves.....'And The A$$ Saw The Angel' by Nick Cave. Bitter and twisted stuff, but bloody fantastic reading. Prepare to lose yourself in a tale of sickness.

hey, maybe BSA was right.

reading 2 at the moment...
cos, its frickin boring on my damn bus which takes 1hr to get into the city...

'the dragon syndicates' - by martin booth.. about the history and origins of Triads, organised asian crime gangs... very interesting book!! great reading~~...

and for some comic relief...

'Fever Pitch' by nick hornby... is a really funny book !!!!! about the life of a football fanatic (aresenal fan).. i'm not a fan of english soccer, but it is still really appealing and amusing book.... the character really reminds me of some footy nuts on this board !!!!!

Jur***ic Park and The Lost World by Micheal Critchon(sp) are so much better than the films !!! Do yourself a favour and read them.

Im also a huge Clive Cussler fan, i have read every single one of his books and his characters Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino are the greatest characters ever. I cant get enough of Clive Cussler. If you decide to check him out, he is an action adventure writer. Pitt and Giordino are the Special Projects director and ***istant special projects director at NUMA. (National Underwater Marine Agency)

They get themselves caught up in all sorts of dramas from Raising the ***anic to treasure hunts to Cuban missile attacks. Its all very entertaining stuff. Anyway check him out. i recommend any of them but some of my faves are Atlantis Found, Cyclops and Vixen 03.

Great reads.

Just finished Nick Hornby's 'About a Boy'..... it was great. Read 'High Fidelity' and 'American Phsycho' before that. :)
Next is a Jeffery Archer, then a Dean Koontz one i cant remember the name of... and Harpers biochemistry just for fun

danni- I loved 'the poet'! literally couldnt put it down :o

I don't read many novels,
but i just finished 'The Bridge to Wiseman's cove' by John Marsden for Yr 11 english.

And i enjoyed 'The Full Montezuma' which i read early this year.

I am currently reading Lord of the Rings (again) in prepartaion for the Movie release in December.

****ens and Ludlum (rest in peace) are my other favourite authors

Iain Cross is also an interesting author - I have read Crow Road (ironic I know) The Bridge and another one which was about a religous cult and a girl in it but I forget the name.

A GREAT book is "Wonderland Avenue" by a guy named Danny Sugarman who was a hanger on with Jim Morrison and the Doors and became great friends with Iggy Pop. Awesome reading.

About a boy is the best thing I've read for a couple of years. Picked it up after seeing the movies of Fever Pitch and High Fidelity, which I havent' read.

In a Hornby phase: now reading How to be Good which is not bad but not as good as about a boy.

I'm reading the Bryce Courtney's "The Australian Trilogy" (it's the Potato Factory, Tommo & Hawk and Soloman's Song). Just started the third one.

Just finished reading Sahara by Clive Cussler and also had a look at the tv mag a few minutes ago. Will soon start reading a biography of Nixon for a history project....fun!
