i have a 1979 mk 2 ford escort
It is a very good car for my first car and it hasn't given me any problems at all.
Next year I'm planning on buying a ford escort RS2000
If anyone else has a ford escort or use to or are just interested in them can they please get back to me.
thanks

My brother successfully rallied RS1800 and RS2000 Escorts in New Zealand during the 1970's

they are just legendary these cars, probably Ford of Englands best ever ?

Twin 45mm DCOE Weber Carburettors are the go for the RS2000, with some good headers and a hot coil, it will fly (well fly enough to keep up with the fuel-injected Jap stuff anyway !)

cheers

Yeah ford escorts are legendary cars!!!
i rally occasionally now but it would be so much better in an RS2000 as they are so much more powerful.
also does anyone know of any ford escort clubs??

Wow! Did your brothers RS1800 run the BDA engine? I so much wish I was around back then to see (and hear) a BDA Escort tearing through the forests.

lufc618 I know that in Brisbane there used to be a small ford car club, which was pretty well made up of escort owners. Not sure if they're still around though. Twin 45mm dcoe webers are the go (I ran this set up on my Datsun) but from what I hear it is a very tight squeeze between them and the strut mounts.

I just purchased my Datsun 260Z two months ago, its a two seater with the classic shape. This marked my departure from a two year stint as a four wheel driver.

I have big plans for the Datsun and am closely following a friend of mine who has recently fitted an RB26DETT into his Datsun 240Z. The RB26 motor happens to be the same motor as used in the Nissan GTR, he is currently detuning it in order to get the car over the pits.

I myself aim to get a half cut Skyline GTS from Japan and then swap the lesser RB motor into the Z, probably an RB20 cause they are cheap, fuel efficient and still make decent hp. Less chance that I will kill myself with that.

Ummm, unfortunately not. Big Bro ran a bored-out 1600 Kent ohv.

They were very popular, not to mention cheap to run, with small time Rally-ers.

Rallying is and was huge in New Zealand, probably because of the proliferation of good dirt roads and good 4 Cyl cars

cheers

Your honest opinion of 4WDs RacerX ?

Well, they have their uses and can be a hell of a lot of fun.

Unfortunately, the majority of 4wds are clearly never take them offroad (why would you with plush interior and delux paintjob), and some owners regard them as their personal armoured tank. A full size 4wd is big (obstructs vision), hard to stop, has comparatively crap road handling, and invariably has an offensive weapon bolted to the front. The only redeeming feature is the safety, and that comes at the cost of the other road users.

IMO, they should make some minor changes on the rules regarding 4wds. They should not be considered as commercials and get that tax break that encourages people to buy them over a sedan. Secondly, bullbars should be banned in cities or at least limited to the softer plastic types.

I bought mine from Northern Mitsubishi in Preston. A fair drive from down here in Geelong, but worth it.

Can't wait until I pick it up.

You got your car yet? What do you think of them? Any pics to post?
