It was actually wonderful to witness the Navy Blue and White jumper with that famous emblem take on the Blue and Yellows. Wow isn’t that a huge stadium for football? To think that we led in all the important statistics right up until when it mattered the most. To be beaten by a couple of goals is no disgrace when you consider the oppositions’ champions and the lopsided free kick advantage they got. Our Match Committee had really done their homework before the clash and had every player well prepared for their roles. We were at ridiculously long odds to cause an upset. The experts in the press and the bookies wrote us off completely giving us no chance against the top side. Our coach is considered too old, set in his ways and too much of a disciplinarian by insiders. They also say the defensive mindset doesn’t allow the players to exhibit their flair with too much kicking laterally and backwards which allows the opposition to get back in numbers. When we do get into range defensive pressure causes our guys to panic and rush their shots. One of the big complaints is why are the bosses favourites some of whom are carrying old injuries allowed so much game time whilst potent weapons are left to warm the pine? A classical example of this has just happened when one of the “tried and true” breaks down with a leg injury again whilst the young guns are ignored. Hasn’t the boss got sufficient confidence in the youngsters? How can Joshua Kennedy use his big frame to advantage sitting on the bench? We all know that he has a great leap and presents for every contest. Time to move the deadwood, I say and play the newbies.

Anyway time to give some credit where it is due:

I thought that Marco was exciting when he came on. His accuracy when kicking to a team mates advantage and at goal even got the opposition supporters going by saying he should be playing for a top side rather than us. :(

Now we all loved Harry and his namesake is kool, but he just couldn’t buy a goal when it really mattered. Our original Harry just went nuts with the celebrations when ever he was presented with a winner.

I though that Lucky was great down back as well, clearing many forward thrusts. It certainly helps to have some tall timber to head them off at the pass, so to speak.

Hasn’t young Bretty improved this season? The number of times he worked the angles and cut off the high ball was amazing. A real Rock of Gibraltar.

All in all, a gutsy performance by the boys and plenty to look forward to particularly as youth is blooded. This clash looming is against a team in a similar situation. The winner can go forward from here, but every match is a knockout from then. Even then do we really expect them to progress to the business end? The loser really is finished in this comp this year, but I suspect will bounce back better than ever if they stick to the youth policy.

Coincidence? I think not! We will be back bigger than ever and with a point or two to prove! :p

A really good performance for 3 quarters, but they always put in one (or two) bad quarters. It might take a while, but they will learn from this, learn to maintain their intensity for 4 quarters, hopefully in the 2 half of the season.

Gotta agree. Did anybody know that we've won only 2 first quarters this whole season, one of them being against the Weagles
