until we find someone who can tag just as well as him and who has a great kick, jacko will remain in our side, and id much rather have someone like him in our side giving us 100% everyweek, you know what your going to get from him, if he is still around when we come good (fingers crossed its soon), i think we will see him utilise his strengths and his kicking will be much less of an issue. the problem is alot of the time when he kicks it he has either run a mile and he is buggered, or he is in a rush, his decision making is not the worst on our list, and either his kicking, but after clocking up as many metres as he does, it doesnt suprise me he just hoofs it.

you serious you haven't seen anything on field to suggest he is a leader? It's always him or Newman who talks in the huddle.

Well there you go CM, I don't watch huddles, I watch the game and the moment the siren goes I'm doing something else until the next one blows.

But of course, being vocal in the huddles is only one part of being a captain, I'm sure if they were honest with themselves, even Cotchin's biggest fans would admit that he's got a way to go when it comes to heavily inspiring his teammates with actual onfield actions. We have others doing that better ATM, though I'm sure Cotchin will get a lot better at it over time.

His ability to stand up when a game is in the balance is certainly as good as anyone at the club, as is his ability to fight through tough sitautions, like being tagged or being underdone/injured .
Did you see the round 1 3rd quarter, when he was used more as an inside mid or Hardwicks press conference following the game ?
Make no mistake about it Rayzor, he is very highly regarded and respected by all within the club , most know he is the heir apparent, including the majority of those whom will entrust him as their leader !
The appointment of Cotchin as the clubs next captain, as most expect, shouldnt be seen as a negative on Jackson IMO ?

Fair call on the 3rd quarter rd.1 ptf, but at the same time, we've had numerous players who've played 8 quarters and really kept us in the hunt in both games and FWIW, I think that shows more onfield leadership.

Totally agree it's no slight on anyone to be behind Cotchin as a candidate, as I mentioned earlier, I'd be thrilled to have just one candidate as good as Cotchin/Jackson/Reiwoldt - having all three as great leaders of the future, each with their own style of going about it, I think it's fantastic for the side and the club as a whole. :thumbsu:

I guess it comes down to what you consider to be inspirational stuff on the field. Rich was the most inspirational player I've seen at tigerland since I started really following football. But he was never given the captaincy for various reason. Not something I agreed with but I can understand why Johnson was given the nod too.

The player for me that is most similar to richo is obviously jack. He lifts his teammates and more than anyone in the AFL he brings the crowd and the tiger army to life! But the single most inspirational bit of play for me by a tiger this year was Cotchin being lead in a race to the ball by 3 saints just burst through the 3 of them and cleverly kicked across his body to Morton at 50. It was desperation and hunger that not one of the saints players had.

The most inspirational moment of the season was beau waters 2 tackles smother and goal assist v port!

Jacko also has a very poor record at the tribunal. I know cotchin got suspended last year too but jacko really needs to curtail his aggression because it cost us last year when he wasn't playing for stupid suspensions.

I probably do have a different definition of 'onfield inspiring' CM and it's no doubt more obscure than most people's, I'm no doubt more prone to looking at the blokes like Jackson, King and White who often keep us in the game during our poor periods as performing inspirational acts than the times when we have 15+ players pulling their weight, everything is working smoothly and a handful are really starring.

Without the consistent 'four quarter triers' you go back to 100+ point pumpings, clicking for 30-40 minutes of outstanding football has no value whatsoever without the blokes who can carry us for the other 70+ minutes.

...and dont forget nahas and his desperate tackles...:thumbsu:...

Had a very interesting season , IIRC in the first two weeks I gave him our best player although the last 3 he has been dissapointing .
Whether a direction from the MC , but ever contest he has been caught badly behind his man who often has gained possession and got clear of the congestion ?
