Now that the dust has kind of settled and people have stopped calling for Bomber's head, what do we expect from the players before next season?

Do we think they'll all hibernate away on holidays and we won't hear from them until next pre-season? Or do we hope they're plastered all over the newspapers vowing revenge in '09?

Personally, I'm a little disappointed that we haven't heard anything publicly from the club aside from a couple of interviews straight after the match (Andrew Mackie on K-Rock etc).

I would love to pick up the paper on the weekend and see an interview with Bomber/Tom in which they talk about our wasted opportunities, why they think it went wrong on the day and the usual cliches about being back next season.

I don't want the club to be silent for months, as it would really upset me and as much as I don't like footy cliches, I think we all need some hope from the club to cling onto over summer.

I expect and hope to hear that the same guy who was brought in by management after season 2006 to help the players do some soul searching will return before season 2009 to iron out cobwebs, and ensure the players are reinvigorated and focused.

There is unfinished business.

I think not hearing from the players is a good thing personally, as it would divert the media attention away from us for the preseason and allow the club and players respectively to refocus and attack the season proper with renewed vigour, drive and mindset!

After all as Sttew says THERE IS UNFINISHED BUSINESS IN 09':thumbsu:
WE WANT OUR CUP BACK!

I don't think we will hear too much before the trade and draft period. The guys will be on holidays for a while as well. You will hear a bit of talk at Carji Greeves Medal night about next year but I reckon that will be it. Our club doesn't have a history of talking themselves up in the press and I don't think that will change just because we lost the GF.

I expect and hope for:

- A renewed flare for winning
- A passion for revenge
- Harder at the ball
- Better kick coaching
- Some good inclusions
- Better mental preparation
- Consistency
- The '09 flag
- Our own sign in hawthorn at the end of the year - something less crap than "deja vu". Hell, maybe I'll just pay for the damn smoke plane to write up a cute little sign in the sky.

They can perfect all of that if they work at it correctly. And I can do the last one ;p

Cats to get tougher 'blockbuster' draw

GEELONG is likely to be granted its request for a tougher "blockbuster" draw in 2009, with the AFL indicating that it will probably schedule the Cats to play Hawthorn and Collingwood twice, with a grand final re-match in round one being given strong consideration. Geelong, which did not play a home game at the MCG this year despite its draw-card status, is likely to be granted its official request to play home games against Hawthorn and the Magpies — the only teams to beat it in 2008 — and to play each of them twice at the MCG.
AFL chief operating officer Gillon McLachlan said last night that the Cats had played Hawthorn and Collingwood once each in 2008 and it was likely they would meet these teams twice in 2009, though next year's fixture was not settled....
This is exactly what I want, glad to know the GFC board and I are on the same page, great minds think alike and all tha jazz. :D

If these demands (playing dawks, colonwood and bullies twice) are granted it will go a long way in preparing our boys to reclaim what was rightfully ours this year. :thumbsu: :)

i want the 09 flag......

GIMME........

Awww BDP :(

I expect 100% competitiveness and intensity - a couple of losses will be acceptable, but still should not happen if the boys apply themselves the way they did during this home and away season.

I don't need to hear any more reflection on the GF from Bomber all the boys. Have a break, pull ur heads in and most of all LEARN from what's just happened.

Let them enjoy their time off as I'm sure they're over footy (much like I am) then come back in late November with the same attitude that Essendon had after their infamous 1999 season and dominate the following season (in our case, again), sealing the deal on GF day this time around.

I don't need to hear how they'll bounce back. It's all just puff-piece stuff anyway.
