No complaints here.

Take out England, Scotland, Afghanistan etc and Warner is averaging below 30 this season in 12 innings.
He ran over your cat didn't he. Seriously do not understand your beef with Warnero_O

Warner 288 runs at 57
Finch 199 runs at 28
57=28??
:drunk:

Take out Afghanistan and what does he average?

Career averages Warner = 34 with 4 hundreds

Finch = 36 with 6 hundreds.

Finch should be safe as houses, if anyone needs to go it's Warner.

Why would I take out the Afghanistan game? It is still relevent to the discussion. Face it, Finch is under more pressure then Warner. You're just so Bias towards Victorians that you can't see it.

Anyway back to Watson
Yep. Keep him at 6 in the ODI team for the time being. By all means give him the arse in the test arena however!

Let's take out all the games where he made runs to satisfy your argument hey?

Think he needs to slide down the order in the test team if he wants to stay in it. After being dropped in the WC, it's clear that his spot is up for grabs if everyone else performs. He'll probably play against WI, but I would think that a pretty bad game would see him dropped for MM for the ashes.

He's just no where near good enough to be batting at the top of the order in any format.

I agree. I think to play test cricket he should be at 6 and bowl more often.

sorry what?

Shane Watson is statistically Australia's greatest ever ODI opener. Averages 10 more than Gilly, but with a similar strike rate, and manages to also average more than Hayden and Waugh, with a significantly superior strike rate.

Why he was ever moved will remain a mystery for all eternity, but his record is extraordinary.

Your post is complete dribble

The Watson hate is getting ridiculous, Clarke, Warner, finch and Haddin all batted worse then Watson but the blame completely lies with Watto once again.

Today? Warner yes, the others hell no.

Are you serious? Clarke didn't perform worse today?
Clarke was one of two that got a half decent ball, and was at least turning the strike over. Watson would have faced more dots than Clarke did deliveries.

But he mad up for those dots with boundaries, Watson strike rate was better and he scored more runs.

42.1 127.0 kph, another wicket for India. This is a soft dismissal. A little luck for them. This is a short ball. Not a bouncer. No menace behind this. Only waist high. Clarke can see a four over midwicket, but just doesn't get the elevation he desires. Finds Rohit Sharma there. This is what a break in momentum does to you. Slight uncertainty, and a boundary ball has resulted in a catch in the infield 248/5

blame for what? which idiots are bagging him?

He made a run a ball 28 surrounded by falling wickets when at one point we lost 3-15 in 5 overs.

Would have been nice for him to accelerate, but he did the team thing and perished chasing runs. Which didn't matter, because MJ then smashed 27 from 9

The problem was that after playing the anchor role, Finch got out shortly after we lost Smith and then Maxwell.

So when we needed at least one set batsman we had Clarke and Watson trying to bat themselves in

Warner throws his wicket away too often after doing the hard work to get his eye in, he has a big variance in his scores he plays ODIs too much like T20 games, he has the odd big innings which wallpapers over the cracks that he fails in a lot of innings.

Australia has zero confidence that he or Finch is going to be at the crease after 10 overs, this I believe is a catch 22 situation with Watson, he is more insurance in case the top order (Smith) collapses. We really only have one batsmen in any kind of form at ODI level, that is Smith. The others are all-rounders in Faulkner and Maxwell who have wallpapered over the cracks that Warner, Finch, Clarke and Watson are in unreliable ODI form so we have stacked the batsmen and all-rounders in case many of them fail by bat or Smith manages to get out cheaply.

We are too top heavy on mediocre batsmen and we would be better off with an extra strike bowler than have to manufacture 20 overs from mediocre bowlers. Giving them 10 overs between say Faulkner, Maxwell and perhaps some spin from Smith would make us significantly stronger.

However, we need to develop more reliable openers.
