There is a part in our glorious theme song that goes like this.....

With all the champions,
they like to send us or up,

Which is where my question comes into it.

If you look on the Blueseum site it states that it is unknown what word/version is correct and that there are some worded song sheets that have us and some that have up.

Personally I sing, send us as I think send up and then we'll keep our ends up sounds a bit wrong.

So.....what do you guys sing???

P.S The greatest song after a close win (in fact any win!).....so arrogant and I love it!!! :D

I sing us aswell and I think that is more commonly sung.

As far as I remember from 'the golden age 1979-1995' the words went:

..we're the team that never let you down, we're the only team FROM CARLTON TOWN..

...with all the champions they love to send up, we'll KEEP OUR END UP

Interesting take on it??? I must admit I have not heard that before but I like it!!!

Us vs Up Controversy
There is some controversy with regards to the use of the word 'up' or 'us' in the line 'They like to send ..'.

Items of memorabilia from as early as the 1960's have both us and up as options. Also, before the 2003 season at an open day at Princes Park, they had music sheets with Carlton theme song words and again it was "With all the champions they like to send us". Us is also the option written in the wall in the players change rooms at Princes Park.

However, many other items including records and annual reports have 'up' as the option.

Used to sing up, have been singing 'us' for the last three years.

'Us' makes more sense. Throughout the song, Carlton is referred to as 'we', the opposition as 'they'. Therefore, who cares who the opposition sends up? Makes much more sense saying the opposition send them to 'us'.

My take on it, anyway.

Everything that i own that has the words on it say 'us' but it does sound like 'up' when its played at the grounds.

from the CFC website ...........

I have always sung "SEND US"

Carlton Football Club Theme Song
We are the Navy Blues,
We are the old dark Navy Blues,
We’re the team that never lets you down,
We’re the only team old Carlton knows,
With all the champions they like to send US,
We’ll keep our end up.

And they will know that they’ve been playing
Against the famous old dark Blues

I know it's "us", but every now and then an "up" slipped out because it fits in so well. A Saint mate gave me crap about it at the time - "Er, at least I know my club's song". Embarrassing.

Now I'm always real careful about it.

It definitely sounds like "up" on the song but the players clearly sing "us". My attitude is who am I to argue with the players?

How can your mate not know his teams theme song, it only has 2 lines in it.
