Give the players continuity.... Stabilty.... give them simple roles. Play them to their suited positions. eg..McDonough is a forward not a back.

Play Martin in the Middle until he cant walk.... give him ownership as the number 1 mid. Use his strength.

Get rid of Hampson ... throw Griffith the No 1 ruck.... Vickery and Elton in and sit them in the forward fifty. Jack will have to be the lead up forward...... Griffith around the ground.

Start every centre bounce with our best mids.... dont go defensive in the guts... We are winning the ball so back the players.

....the game plan.... the method.

1. Pay on at all cost... we are turning it over anyhow so atleast be attacking. Put the oposition under constant pressure with quick ball movement.
2. No backwards disposal.... everything forward.... 45 degrees either side of the player facing towards the goals. Take the game on.... run run run.
3. Kill the ball in defence.... no one to mark the ball in defence unless they are 5 meters clear.
4. No leading to the pockets..... Forwards working hard to create space in dangerous positions agian we want to be a great side not a good one. We need to try and win games not try and stop the others from winning.... throw the forward defensive pressure out the window and make the midfielders accountable to lock the ball in the forward.
5. Get the defenders attacking agian.... Morris... Grimes.... and Rance when he is back. All are weapons when taking he game on. Tell them to ignore their DE.... just try and create .... break the lines. Be predictably unpredictable .... everyone should be expecting the ball.

... and most of all the mantra.... everyone is equal... we win together we lose together. No excuses.... NONE. throw the stats sheet out the window and coach with feeling for 5 weeks.

Dear Dimma ............

I'm hoping he actually reads this one.... considering we have been dishing out the same shit for 6 weeks and he seems to have no idea how to fix things then I thought Id give him my opinion.....

Dimma needs to change to improve.... whether he can recognise that is the million dollar 2 year pay out question.

You want to get rid of Hampson? Our only true ruckman at the moment? If Griffiths played number 1 ruck he'd either break down or end up like Adam Pattison. Elton isn't exactly setting the VFL alight, Edwards or McBean would be a better option.
Apart from that, I agree with everything.

And no to Jack leading up. Has looked a lot more dangerous playing deep lately.

Jack is the only player we have that can take a contested mark.... we need him up the ground unfortunately...

Hampson is a major reason why we cant get it past the centre.... we dont have a marking player around the ground. We are playing 1 player short with Hampson.

Agree with this, funnily enough Hardwick got speared for suggesting the same pre season.
Next will be a discussion around Dusty playing forward in Siberia rather than launching attacks from the back half. Stuck out like the proverbial when he went back yesterday, was the only one who took the game on.

... and Vlas. ..... I would also give Vlas more time in the middle.

Love the thought put into this.

Agree with playing players in their positions.

Disagree with Dusty as no 1 mid. I don't see his endurance as the issue, but his lack of defensive pressure. He should play high half forward, in and out of the action and roaming forward.

Griff breaks even at best as a part time ruck. With his shoulder injuries id keep him at that.

Vickery, Jack and Elton up forward are too top heavy. One too many talls. Vickery I'm not sure knows how to play the team game in the fwd 50 yet. Make him earn is spot. He hasn't yet.

Agree with all the game style comments. Except we should look to play on at every opportunity. If we can't, then the long kick comes into play.

You dont need defensive pressure if you are winning the ball.......

And some has to Help out Griffith in the ruck.... Hampson can be a stay at home dad.

I don't give a rats arse if Dusty has no defensive side to his game when playing in the middle.....
He gets the ball and uses it long - means the other team does not have it.
Let them play defence on us!

Yeah you do. Look at the top 3-4 sides over the last few years. All good defensive pressure teams. Put the opposition under pressure (or infer pressure) and a turnover will ensue. Defensive pressure should be a mandatory for us. Otherwise you have too many one way runners, cheaters, downhill skiers, call them what you like.

Grigg, Houli, Martin, Edwards and Vickery are all guilty of this. It's demoralising to the team when they are only seen running one way. And disastrous the closer it happens to the opposition 50.

The best defence is to atttack.... we are now too defensive and dont put pressure on the opposition. A player like dusty should be taking the game on.... and running back to help out.

The last three grand finalists disagree.
They pride themselves by having 2 way runners, in all areas of the field. Look at the pressure Hawthorn put on the opposition ball carrier. They force a turnover, then quick ball movement to a forward line that either converts or tries desperately to lock it in.

Dusty needs to learn to run two ways. He gets found our when he's too offensive and we don't have good enough two way runners to make up for him

Throw out all structures and tell the players to go and play footy.
Brad Scott said today you just have to let your star players show what they can do.

Is a defensive Dusty better than an attacking Dusty? .... sure all mids have to run hard to get back to defence and he does that. But we wont became a good side if we continue to turn natural attacking players into defensive minded players.... Ellis and Morris are good examples of that if you compare how they are playing this season compared to last season.

Let me list a few names and you tell me if they are defensive minded or run two ways (like I am suggesting Dusty do).
Two ways means you work to get the ball off the opposition, not sit and wait for it:

Joel Selwood
Jobe Watson
Cyril Rioli
Luke Hodge
Tom Rockliff
Josh Kennedy
Michael Barlow

These guys are aggressive offensive players but still work two ways. Dusty doesn't belong in that group.
