What is a pass mark for 2019?

Based on a somewhat healthy list - a premiership. If we have a horror run with injuries again though the goalposts move a bit.

2018's achievements entitle us to zilch in 2019.

The comp is too even IMO; just like everyone else I want a flag, but I'll resist grading 2019 as a pass or a fail. With injuries what they are I'm too scared to jinx us with any ladder/finals prediction. Instead, this is what would make me consider 2019 a good year:

1. All our players are somehow able to get more out of themselves for the team, and that they have each other's back.
2. I hope the game plan continues to evolve, and that our players remain firmly behind the coaching team.
3. I hope the fickle injury gods piss off and that we get a solid run from Billy and Moore. **knock-on-wood**
4. Carlton get the wooden spoon, and we beat them by 1 point when we play. (*actually, just this would make the year "a pass")
5. Richmond finish 9th.

Love the Last one but I rather beat the Carltank by 20+ Goals then 1 Point

That there game was the most enjoyable game I've witnessed since 2011.

I think they'll slip this yr.. they can't go for as long as they have without having injuries to their key players.. 3 or 4 of which are 30 or thereabouts. And wouldn't listen to garbage about role playing.. if anyone of reiwoldt rance or martin fall.. they're toast.

Richmond - unlike Collingwood, West Coast and Hawthorn, have a gameplan, not a system. There is a difference.

A system, when it works, should be able to handle injuries, which as all 3 of the above clubs I mentioned did. A Gameplan? It's not that simple. IT depends on what your gameplan is based around.

The issue for Richmond, is that their gameplan is built on a foundation of having very minimal injuries. The bedrock of their gameplan is that they have, for all intents and purposes, the same 22 that go out there every week and they all know each other intimately. I had always suspected this throughout 2017 but the moment I knew it for certain was when they played (I think) Adelaide or Sydney at the G last year. Moore was playing forward in I think his only game for the season and there were 2 F50 entries, one by Cotchin and one by Martin that both rebounded straight out with minimal fuss, which as we all know, rarely happens with 17/18 Richmond.

Why?

Because Moore has barely played with Martin and Cotchin. They don't know his leading patterns and he doesn't know where they're going to put the ball. What people need to understand about Richmond, is that when Rance gets the ball at fullback, Reiwoldt down the other end pretty much already has a decent idea where that ball will end up. THat's how well they all know each other. That's why when you see their stupid volleyball knock ons, it seems like there's always a Richmond player at the end of it. It's effectively a modified version of the BRisbane 2001-2004 Gameplan.

Why am I saying all this? Because I'm agreeing with you 100%. If Richmond had just a handful of injuries to decent players, they're screwed. If they had OUR injury list from the past few seasons? They'd be a bottom 4 side.

I think that 2019 is a clutch season/year.

Whilst not winning the flag will not be the end of the world, winning it will create a huge valve release and potentially be a game changer for our club. Winning it will forgive past sins and disappointments. It will break the "extended time between flags" theme of the past 50 odd years. It may lead to a run of premierships in a short space of time as the theme changes. And it will rubber stamp/validate the much vaunted and often contentious succession plan.

The pressure is firmly on because the consequences of winning it are huge both on the day and moving forward for the club. Losing it again or not making it just resigns the club to the long standing status quo.

On the 1990 VHS tape "bound for glory" I watched on repeat constantly for 3 monthes as a 10 year old and Im sure others have seen it and can quote it like I can, Eddie McGuire, a young up and coming journalist narates and reads a quote that says "there are 2 games you must win when you play for collingwood. Carlton at home and carlton away". I still agree with this. But Id also like finals. Anything more is a bonus. Any team that wins a flag needs a lot of luck along with a lot of skill to get there. But FFS, less injuries, please!!!!!

Pretty much like the relationship Salah has with Firmino re..

I watched 'goal rush' on liverpool tv the other day.. Firminos first 50 goals. If anyone gets a chance.. look how brilliant this bloke is at getting space.. God if we can teach our forwards some of these movements.. ksehaseta re..

Sorry re.. I'm in Liverpool mode.. by the time I wake up tomorrow morning.. we'll be sitting on top of the EPL re..

**** Carlton. Carlton are irrelevant. As nice as it is to beat them we have bigger fish to fry.

I think I we'll know a few rounds in if we will win it.. theres this innate feeling that we all have.. just like that feeling we had in 2010 and 2011 when you just know that there's no one left to beat.. you just know you're number 1.

At the moment.. I think we're a premiership threat along with 3 or 4 others.. we need to get a good look at where our competitors are at in the first few rounds.. what new tricks they've employed etc.. the 666 set up as well.. who knows how that we'll go etc..

One thing I have picked up on in the jlt is the steely eyed approach of our players.. they really want this big time. The belief is there.

I much preferred to give it to them at the MCG. I only had standing room tickets for that game but managed to perch behind their allocated seating area on level one. Every time we kicked a goal I made it my duty to lean over the rails and let out a massive roar. Many turned their heads and it was glorious to see their faces looking back like slapped asses. I should have recorded it for the LOLs.

My “shoving it right up them" (as the great man would describe it) was also at the game. I was on level two close to their cheer squad and shouted down "yellow and black!" when we kicked goals. I have never been more vocal at a game but felt I had to seeing we were badly outnumbered as far as crowd numbers were concerned. It was amazing to see their supporters leaving from around half time. I haven’t seen too much written about that and wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it

Expectations are for the players and the coach to perceive. I'm a supporter so I just go along and barrack for my team.

You are a more kind individual than I. I think if stakeholders do not have any expectations on the performance of their own stake then standards slip accordingly.

Relevantly, my expectations are to make a preliminary final.

Harsh.

That’s like saying to pass a quantum physics exam you need to get 100%

Need the 16 it's driving everyone nuts.

We had 32 years between 1958 and 1990 (with 7 lost GF’s in between). We truly went nuts then: engaging witch doctors (true), changing our club theme song (true), changing club customs (Hafey became the first coach recruited from outside the club, Ray Shaw became the first captain not to wear the number 1), we almost sent ourselves broke in an arms race with Richmond, the term “the Colliwobbles” was coined, and our highest profile supporter (Lou Richards) was losing crazy bets that not even BringouttheGimp would make (eg: clean the Bourke Street Mall with a toothbrush). That’s what ‘nuts’ looks like.

It’s ‘only’ been 8 seasons and 2 GF losses since our last Premiership, and as Collingwood supporters we’re battle hardened. It’ll be a while before we truly reach “nuts” again.

Beat Richmond three times, including another prelim, and it's a pass for me.

Recent history suggests that when we make one GF after a period of absence we back it up the following season.

Genuine question/discussion.

After getting within a kick of a premiership in 2018, and given that the list looks deeper and fitter coming into 2019, what is an acceptable passmark? Nothing less than a premiership? Another GF appearance? Top 4?

Interested to get people's collective thoughts.
Definitely top 4.

Anything else will be a failure.
