1. Hawthorn v Geelong
2. Carlton v Collingwood
3. Adelaide v Port Adelaide

Collingwood - Carlton is very overrated. Nothing has happened between the two for about 30 years and their games have been among the dullest. It's hardly relevant nowadays tbh.

No where near the biggest or best rivalry any more.

Give me Adelaide - Port, Geelong - Hawthorn, Carlton - Essendon, Carlton - Richmond, West Coast - Fremantle and Hawthorn - Essendon over that any day. At least there is some heightened emotions visible in those games from players and fans

So .......... football wasn't invented 30 years ago ............ over the course of the last 110 years, Carlton-Collingwood has been the biggest rivalry

Just because Adel-Port West Coast-Frem havent been in the AFL for a hundred yrs doesnt meen they dont have a big rivalry if anything their rivalry is magnified being a two team state! And we all know how big they are for their supporters..

Old school-
Pies v blues
Pies v essendon
Pies v tigers
Blues v essendon
Hawks v essendon

New school-
Adelaide v port
Hawks v cats
W coast v freo

The only reason the western derby is losing its edge is that Freo keep winning.
Though they are still the team I most want to beat, closely followed by cats and hawks. I would imagine most Freo fans are the same.

Expect it to fire up over the next few seasons as Freo get closer to overtaking WCE in the head to head results.

Historically, you'd have to go with Carlton/Collingwood.

For me the Geelong v Hawthorn rivalry has lost interest for nuetrals, I'm over it, but from 08-14 it was great.

Hawthorn v Sydney has potential, 2 GFs, big name player changing clubs etc.

Any finals involving the traditional big 4 will always be pretty heated and add to a long list of history, as well as big H&A games which always pull crowds.

Then the WA derby and the SA showdowns are always good too.

Those listed above would be my picks at the moment.

If there was a revisit of the rivalry round, what would it look like? I'd guess:

Collingwood vs Richmond
Essendon vs Carlton
Brisbane vs Gold Coast
Sydney vs GWS
Fremantle vs West Coast
Adelaide vs Port Adelaide
Hawthorn vs Geelong
Western Bulldogs vs North Melbourne
St. Kilda vs Melbourne

My top 10 would be:
1. Carlton - Essendon.
2. Carlton - Collingwood.
3. Collingwood - Essendon.
4. Carlton - Richmond.
5. Geelong - Hawthorn.
6. Richmond - Collingwood.
7. Hawthorn - Essendon.
8. Essendon - North Melbourne.
9. Essendon - Richmond.
10. Essendon - West Coast.

Since 1990 there have been 64 games that have drawn 80K+

21 - Collingwood v Essendon
15 - Collingwood v Carlton

6 - Essendon v Richmond
5 - Essendon v Carlton
5 - Collingwood v Geelong
4 - Carlton v Richmond
3 - Hawthorn v Geelong
2 - Collingwood v Hawthorn
2 - Collingwood v St Kilda
1 - Collingwood v Richmond

The Carlton v Collingwood rivalry has been dead for 30 years now. he two teams are almost never, ever in similar positions on the ladder (this year they might) and most games are an absolute bore fest. With two young talented teams, I can see a future for the rivalry in 3-4 years time, which would be damn terrific because the crowds are nuts when the two are in contention.

Collingwood v Essendon and Carlton v Essendon are superior rivalries and produce better contests then Pies v Blues.

At the moment, for what the games produce, Hawks vs Cats is #1, Showdown is always a spectacle to watch in #2 also.

Hawks v Port is a newy here to stay I think. Wingard and Hodge genuinely hate each other.

Pretty irrelevant when both state derbies couldn't do 80k if they tried
