Very broad subject matter Buster. Obvioulsy there a number of factors but i suppose the major one is the fact that is a developing list. We could probably play a more experienced team and battle for a spot at the lower end of the eight but they have chosen to fastrack the youngsters in the hope of winning a premiership in the next 3-5 years. So that the Eberts, mastens, browns, selwoods will have 60-70 games under their belts when we are ready to challenge again.

The older players aren't as good/aren't performing as well as they should be.

We are further behind, quite a bit further behind both of these teams. Richmond and Melbourne high draft picks with a few solid years under thier belts running through the middle.

Richmond have the third oldest list in the competition and are the prime example of who not to copy. Hawthorn have the youngest list in the competition and just won a flag.

We can improve the quality of our list further keeping the best senior players and filling up with both the best youth available in PP's but also start looking to add more depth to develop. Still think we have another two drafts till find a really solid best 25.

In another thread, I listed this 8 as players who I believe will be definite best 22 and the core of our future side;

Shannon Hurn
Eric Mackenzie
Josh Kennedy
Mitch Brown
Chris Masten
Scott Selwood
Brad Ebert
Nick Naitanui

There is a nice balance of positions and they all have substantial improvement left.

Ultimately, at the moment they are underdeveloped. Only really Hurn has the experience, big guys take longer and our midfielders have NO muscle.

Look at the size of Geelong's midfielders. Until ours can stop getting thrown like rag dolls and do some throwing of their own, we will struggle.
