Who uses premium (95/98) vs standard (91) unleaded petrol?

I've always used 91 and get about 380km out of it, but lately experimenting with 95 and getting about 500km out of a tank. Given the price difference it's something like 25% further for 15-20% more money. Somethingsomethingsavetheplanet too.

I always put 95 or 98 in my car. It actually specifies that 91 is no good for our car.

Mine's okay with any of the three, but seems to be tuned differently for different ones. I'm not sure if 98 is worthwhile or not, apparently cars like mine often use the same tune for both 95 and 98 so the benefit would be wasted.

It's not the time, it's the constant tapping of the break, the constant look to overtake - it's the general inconvenience of the person in front of me....
Or, you could just match speed with the pensioner in front and write those two minutes off as a benefit to your blood pressure.

i was watching an old top gear the other day... and actually jeremy made some kind of point.

he said people complain about the price of pertol being say $1 a litre

if you do a comparasin, coke is around $3 a litre, evian water around $4, chanel #5 is $1300 a litre, black printer ink, $1500 a litre..

before petrol reches the bowesr it requires;

a drill rig to be built, drilling to happen, find a location, hire hundreds of men, have ships ship it to shore, build refinerys the size of small towns, with thousands more workers, then transport said fuel in a network of trucks...

still, its only arpund $0.40 pre tax..

pretty cheap really for all that has to happen? compare with coke and... bottled water.

That's actually illegal last time I looked XD although I think everyone who drives manual does it.
Say what now?

Bit hard to match speed when the person in front is constantly slowing down/speeding up/tapping the brake. Just get the **** out of my way.

how bout the new cars at the light these days... the lights go green and you hear all these engines starting up - its like they go into sleep mode on red. must have pretty effective little starter motors?

i was always told the most strain is put on your engine upon starting? is this new feature straining engines while saving fuel?

Say what now?
"Control

Safe drivers are in full control of their vehicle at all times. To demonstrate this you must accelerate and brake smoothly during all manoeuvres. If you are driving a manual, you must avoid stalling the engine and use the clutch and gears smoothly. You must not coast in neutral or with the clutch disengaged for more than 50 metres."

Works out at about 3.5 seconds at 60km/h

I severely doubt it. My new car will have that feature. It's going to take some getting used to. Whenever I'm in a car that does that I can't help but feel a little nervous like the car has just died and will it start again as I go to take off(???) as historically your engine stopping was usually a sign that something very bad has happened.

Well there you go. Not sure if that's the same in WA but wouldn't surprise me if it was. Seems strange as it's not like you can't use the brake when the car is out of gear.

If you have an accident and the cops see your car is in neutral? Still sounds far fetched though.
Surely if you crash you'd chuck the car in neutral once stopped.

Unless ur ded and you then wouldn't care if car found in neutral.

clutch disengaged for more than 50 metres

What about when you're on the Hume per say and you're coasting at 110km for 300 miles? You still need to engage the clutch every 50m?

isnt there a link to it being in gear (in an auto especially) and the power steering functioning?

maybe they run off the same belt?

have you ever tried to steer a car thats in neutral, its like the old days trying to move the wheel around...

I haven't noticed the steering being that bad when I've done it.

But, the braking is not as good.
