i think we should let the great man go, free up some space in our cap and get in some fresh blood into our club! its interesting to see judd's contract expires the same year kouta's expires. We will have some real bargaining power to claim the superstar!

I think it'd be best all around if this was his last year. I know he's still a champion player but it's just about time and it'd be nice if we could give him a farewell game at the end of this year.

He can't jump anymore and we need to get our young guys into the centre. Would like to see him stick around in a assistant coaching role.

Judd wont be going anywhere.....at least not for a while yet. Probably time for Kouta to hang up his boots at the end of the year, depending on his form/injuries. He's been a champion for the club, but he won't be tasting any more team success as a player.

If he's still playing alright football and wants to continue, let him play on. He's a champion player who desverses to retire when he feels its time - not forced into retiremnt.

I feel he could go on for one more year, but perhaps not as captain. I believe the time is right to appoint Nick Stevens as captain at the end of 2006.

Kouta still has a fair bit to give to the team, and i'm sure all of the young kids love having him around the club. In short, give him one year deal and i'm almost certain his contract wouldn't be a massive one. Nontheless, half his contract is not counted as he is on the veterans list.

A lot will depend on what he has lined up for his post-football life. It's a given that a new contract would be worth a fraction of what he will get for this season. Does he still love the game enough to play on whilst receiving a lot less money? Kouta does not have a lot to gain by playing that extra season. If anything he has a lot to lose, particularly considering the fragile state of his knees and hamstrings, nowadays. If he has the right things set up, income-wise, this will definitely be his last season.

Play him for less minutes in 2006 and use him more as an impact player with 80 minutes a game in the centre square. A rest every quater no matter what the game situation.

Then re-sign him for 1 year on a decent base plus match payments.
100k plus 10k a game or something like that. 320k if he plays the whole 22 games (unlikely) and some incentives for best and fairest and so on.

He is worth that much to the supporters, membership, crowds and PR spin and I would be happy with that sort of deal. Its fair and its pretty low risk if he got injured and is also not insulting to him.

Allison will probably ask for 10k a possession and a small island as his base salary but thats another story.

All subject to form and fitness though. A top 6 in the best and fairst this year and his knees feeling like he can go another year then I would like to see him play on for 1 more year and help out our young list. Another injury or a disinterested player and let him retire from the game on his own terms.

Everyone is saying subject to form and injuries...

What about desire and willingness...

At the end of the day, it is upto Kouta. If he is feeling good and wants to go on for another year, work something out with the legend...

give him a base salary for a 12 month contract, and a pay for play deal.

We want him to still have something to do with the club after he finishes playing for us.

hi guys, first time poster, loooong time lurker.

i agree with mojo31. play him in a similar way to what geelong has done with riccardi or stkilda/harvey. if kouta plays as many minutes as he did last season, he won't see out the year.

let him play out 2006
see how he goes and how his body feels at the end of the season

if he is feeling fit and has the desire to play on, let him play in 2007
but as has been said, play him off the bench like riccardi

Surely if he's in our best 22 we keep him, but not at a ridiculous price!

That's a fair deal but I'm pretty sure he'll be wanting more than that to play on.

The good news for Carlton is I don't think Kouta would switch clubs if we put up a bad deal.
