I've had enough of all of these kents already.

Nothing would satisfy me more right now than drafting H.Reid and watch him kick a bag against the tin-rattlers.

And anyone else wanting to entertain splitting the pick in this massively compromised draft needs to give themselves an uppercut as well.

It’s less about who goes where than the AFL will want both clubs to receive TWO very early first round picks without ever having to use the dirty words “priority pick”.

The deal I mentioned is the best way of achieving that, whilst satisfying both parties.
Again, why would the AFL do that?

WCE already said they won't be asking for a PP.

North's on their own and can chase the AFL for scraps all they want.

The AFL won't tell teams who to trade/draft(other than the Buddy trade...). If they did, they'd have forced North to pick more than 3 KPPs in the ND since 2017.

They will want both clubs to get back on track and competitive as quickly as possible. The draft is their primary mechanism to achieve this.

Picks 2 & 3 for Reid now is MUCH more preferable for all concerned than another Jason Horne-Francis scenario developing.
This just undercuts the entire point of the draft and would render it pointless.
A system only works if the people using it have faith in it, however fleeting.
The AFL approaching clubs and telling them who they can and cannot draft or "massaging" solutions just takes any legitimacy away.

If the AFL approached us with such nonsense i'd hope our club went public and roasted the shit out of them, then flipped the bird and took Reid anyway.

I mean, this is never going to happen.

But lol at not being happy with 1 for 2/3.

Would be easily the highest price paid in a trade ever, for a teenager, that hasn't done anything.

The AFL privately manipulate and massage outcomes. It’s what they’ve always done and will continue to do. It’s their show. We’re just the consumers.

Isn't this called draft tampering? So you are saying it is OK for AFL to break their own rules? In a few years time none of the highly rated VIC youngsters will move interstate and they will do this with the full blessing of the AFL. So much for a supposedly national competition.

Would be mad to turn down 2 and 3.

Do also have the gut feel that the AFL will try to push their way in and get involved behind the scenes. There’ll be all sort of pressure from the media and broadcasters not to lose the best Victorian prospect in years, and money talks unfortunately.

2+3 would be more than enough but I still hope we tell them to stick it.
Money talks?

WCE has more fluid cash than the AFL.

If 'money talks', then terms should be dictated by WCE.

It doesn't though and as the retention of Simpson has proven, WCE don't give 2 shits what the Vic media think.

Also, why the **** would the AFL try to work out an outcome where Reid goes to a Victorian club, simply because some losers on SEN are in tears of Reid possibly leaving Victoria?

It's insanity to even suggest it.

Wouldn't we be satisfied using the one top ten pick we already have?

Rules? They make it up as they go mate. Hence all the grey areas and wriggle room in these matters. The AFL does what it wants in the interests of the business.

Agree to the deal in principle, provided it’s done on draft night, then just submit Reid’s name anyway just to really piss them off

The AFL aren't 'massaging' an outcome for Reid to get to North.

If they have to do that, might as well fold the competition.

Clubs should be smart enough to work this stuff out themselves, if need be.
Honestly I think you're underestimating the levels the AFL will stoop to in order to get the outcome they want

I don’t quite have enough tin foil nearby to buy the AFL massaging that deal, but if 2&3 is on the table for pick 1 we should take it

Don't disagree but unless eagles or norf are suddenly located in a northern state or turn into one of the big vfl teams, I think it's pretty misguided to think the afl would go to these lengths.

Yeah I don't think any of this will happen and we'll just take Reid at 1, but it's something to talk about

AFL HQ to North Melbourne - "if you move to Tasmania, we'll make sure you get Reid and McKercher"

I mean he didn't say exactly what you think he said. He specifically didn't say that they rate Reid as the number 1. They may well do, but that's not what Bond said.

Too much is being said too early here.

Ultimately West Coast is in a win win situation with pick 1, we can take Reid or if a club gets a massive deal together then we trade in multiple picks that are suitable.

The onus doesn't sit with the West Coast Eagles. North can low ball us and we could extract more from Melbourne if we wanted. If that's not enough we take Reid and we go like Dal Santo said and make the rest up later.

Reid will walk in 24 months if you select him. He’s been liking Insta posts potting your club and head coach FFS.

Derelict in your duty if you don’t take the best deal you can get for him now. Pride and stubbornness will end up costing you.

Close the door behind you won’t you?
