I've had enough of all of these kents already.

Nothing would satisfy me more right now than drafting H.Reid and watch him kick a bag against the tin-rattlers.

And anyone else wanting to entertain splitting the pick in this massively compromised draft needs to give themselves an uppercut as well.

No chance in hell of getting anything remotely like that.

4 by itself is a stretch.
I think if we were dealing solely with Gold Coast our F1 for pick 4 would be a stretch as it doesn’t really suit their needs

However, if Adelaide get involved then that changes things as our F1 has some attraction to them given it’s likely to be a top 4 pick. Possibly pick 1

Which is also why we’d want pick 4 as a minimum

We shouldn’t be paying our F1st for 4. It will end up as 6 and our F1st is almost certainly a top 3 pick (and must be nominally valued at #1 in any trade).

#1 for #6 is terrible business.

Equally no way we get 4, 8, F1st off Adelaide.

Would probably be asking for 4 + a F1st from a 2023 finals team, that would be about the best we could get imo ‘if’ we want to trade the pick.

The following I think would be a good starting point, for the sake of F1s I’ve assumed same ladder positions as this year, obviously the Crows are the team taking the risk.

OUT
Crows 9, 20, 23, F1 (9) (4665 points)
GCS 4, 32 (2618 points)
WCE F1 (1), 35, 38 (3987 points)

IN
WCE Pick 4, 9 (3503 points)
Crows 32, 35, 38 WCE F1 (1) (4571 points)
GCS 20, 23, Crows F1 (9) (3196 points) (+578)

Leaves us with picks
1,4,9,19 for first 2 rounds
1-Reid
4-McKercher/Curtain
9-O’Sullivan/Murphy/Wilson
19-Hardeman/DeMattia

If we ended up with Reid, McKercher, O'Sullivan/Murphy/Sanders and Windsor. I'd lose my mind!!!

WCE could also throw in pick 54 and 57 (402 points) to give GC + 980 points including an early pick next year. Surely that doesn’t get beaten by anybody? That would be a huge result I agree. Relies on north taking one of Curtin/McKercher and then taking Watson (who they actually need). If we take McKercher we take O’Sullivan or Murphy with 9 and if we take Curtin we take Windsor or Sanders (if available). Sorted.

Your username seems very appropriate...Bit of a sandy response that one.

No, I'm not a psychologist and in fact, I probably need one with the amount of time I spend on the draft/trade board.

You can however get a feel for a persons disposition by watching them interviewed. This coupled with the fact he said he'd go anywhere and is a very loyal person by nature, it doesn't take Sigmund Freud to draw a conclusion.

Worst case scenario, we lose him but we'd get a raft of picks for him as the AFL would look to help the new team. It's a win/win imo.
Of the top 5 next year, I think they're all VM apart from Draper...I'd back in the Tasmanian first.

As soon as we get an inkling when exactly the Tas team will come in (but before it's official) - we make sure he is contracted to ensure if he goes we get top compo.

Easier said than done

You’d think clubs would ensure players are contracted when they hit Free Agency status if they could as well

And force a player to sign a contract…

Yep, there's a reason lots of players are out of contract when free agency hits. I suspect it's pre-panning between the manager and player to test market value, provide options, and maximise contract. I don't think any manager is going to advise any of these Tasmanian kids to be contracted when that new team starts.

I'd love McKercher and Harley in our midfield, but there will be players with potential just as good, next year. We're a chance for the spoon next year too. I think we'll be a lot better, but young teams struggle. And North - at some point they will pop and start winning games. I'm tipping at some stage during next year.

Wanting to trade F1 for McKercher is FOMO. It would have to be a deal heavily in our favour, and I can't see a team itching that bad to give up this year for next.

I'm so glad we got #1. All the other options in the 2 - 5 range, although they all look like being 200 game A-graders, are problematic for one reason or other.

Definitely should be trying to get the fomo brewing at Adelaide. Still doubt they’d give up too much this far out for a gamble on a local bloke.

A chance Draper doesn’t end up top 5 or a chance our pick doesn’t even get him. I wouldn’t be overpaying when both of those scenarios are definitely possible

The other thing is Welch the F/S prospect who could well be a 1st round pick meaning they’d want to get as high up the draft board as possible to use the pick on a player and not for points. I floated a WCE/ADE/GCS trade yesterday that I thought would have suited everyone’s needs and leave us with picks 4 and 9 in addition to Reid at 1 and Hardeman/DeMattia at 19.

A lot of West Coast faces at the game in Leederville.

If you had any concerns about pick 1 being traded away in pursuit of Curtin then today should help ease those concerns.

Curtin was ineffectual in defence, he was played too deep and didn't impact defensively. He ran into trouble more than once and didn't switch on until the second half when was pushed up the ground.

Unless we are in a window to win a GF we should never give up a future 1st round pick ever again. We need to become the club that is hard to deal with. Reid is the obvious choice pick 1, to get an extra 1st round pick this year only deal with this years picks & maybe a player we can offload.

Around what pick do we expect the face value of a pick being the same as the draft night value?

Obviously there will be NGA & F/S & compo picks pushing them back esp in the 2->20 range.

And then they will float back up as those matched bids are paid for.

Somewhere in the mid-30s?

i'd be open to doing something with F2/3/4. but to deal off a F1 it would need to be something super silly in return.

Foley gone. Wonder if more will be announced today?

I remember the raging debate in 2018 that we took Luke Foley instead of Luke Valente who went to Freo instead with the pick after ours.

Turns out it was close to a nil-all draw anyway even if Valente didn't play a single AFL game. Fairly forgettable player, might be a good pub sports trivia question later.
