I've had enough of all of these kents already.

Nothing would satisfy me more right now than drafting H.Reid and watch him kick a bag against the tin-rattlers.

And anyone else wanting to entertain splitting the pick in this massively compromised draft needs to give themselves an uppercut as well.

it wasn't even a highlight package lol. that was just all his touches. the kid is a human highlight reel.
Reid is so hyped(deservedly so) but not in that game. I was there lots of Pioneers did better. Falcons Hughes gave him an almighty battle.

Well he definitely gets targeted and this year in particularly the oppo would be out to get one up on him and punish him when they can.
You would have to then say if he is going to cop attention at the next level, pretty much a given, this year would have prepared him a little.

What I don't understand is, why don't we live up to out arrogant name

Call a press conference and say we're taking Harley Reid at 1 come November, we back ourselves and culture and he's the best 18y in the country

Shut the Vic's up and maybe, we may get this godfather offer on the table
Because you're on a hiding to nothing by doing that.

What if you committed to a player and they did an ACL before the draft? What if they got caught drink driving or beat the shit out of their girlfriend? As unlikely as any event might be that would change your mind, you gain very little bar maybe getting hounded slightly less by the media.

Or if he didn’t invite his teammates to his birthday or didn’t say anything about the $100 note in the playbook

Then what

Fair point Flarn but I think there’s a huge potential upside here too, which is perhaps what Phil is eluding to. Give the fans, the kid and most importantly the club a stake in the ground that says this is our club, we’ll do things our way and we’ll back ourselves to the hilt. Whilst there will no doubt be offers of perceived interest, no club is going to make an offer that is so convincing that literally no one would refuse. Make the call, take the kid (our most pressing list need) and start planning an assault on Gold Coast’s first pick and what to do with the rest of our draft hand.

Obviously he’s number 1 I was just
reacting to all the hysteria about his highlight reel
in that game. Falcons won it and there were
better players on the day.
I was there, and there really wasn't a better player at the ground. In fact, I'd put Reid's performance as better than anyone else in all four of the games I watched live at Mars Stadium over the weekend. Maybe Sanders and Ashcroft for the Dragons the day before, but they certainly didn't feel like they had even close to the same impact over the entire game like Reid did in his.
Falcons won the game with two goals in the second half of the fourth quarter. The Pioneers were dominant in the second quarter and the first half of the last quarter.
Please tell me which Pioneers players you believe did better than Reid?
Murray had 23 disposals and Hastie had 20 disposals for the Falcons, and neither were particularly close to Reid's disposals and impact.
Mclachlan and Evans kicked 4 goals apiece, but only had 16 and 13 disposals respectively.
I honestly don't know who you could be referring to when you say "better players".

How did F O’Sullivan and Smith go against Ashcroft and Sanders?
Plan to watch the game in the next day or two pretty impressive midfield prospects there.

Probably don’t have to explicitly say you’re taking Reid but just categorically say under no circumstances will we be trading pick 1, which both implies Reid but also leaves a back door if one of those events occur.

Are you mixing up Finn O'Sullivan from the Chargers with another player? Didn't see that game but I see on the stats sheet he had 24 disposals.
Jake Smith was decent (21 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles, 1 goal), but it's worth noting that there were large periods of the game when the Dragons midfield was waltzing the ball out of the centre circle almost at will. IIRC Smith did kick his sole goal from a long run through the centre of the ground. But it was always going to be a tough game for him to stand out in.

No worries. It’s all subjective. I reckon Evans and McMillan for Pioneersnhad a great day and Tobyn and Hughes for Falcons were strong. It was a high pressure game and thought Rudd was influential too. Not all about the disposals. Anyway just an opinion
WA will still get Reid. All good.

Yeah was talking about the Dragons vs Oakleigh game but that was last week I thought you had watched that one. My mistake all good 👍🏻

Also, why do these writers think WCE would be desperate for Curtin to replace Hurn? Yes, they may rate him as the second best player in the draft and would take him as best available if we were holding pick 2 but we don't hold pick 2, we hold pick 1.

1 - Pretty sure that's what Witherden was traded in for. Ok, he's not as good as Hurn but his defending markedly improved this year, as did his kicking.

2 - We have Hough, who could perform a similar role if he doesn't move up to the wing. Having Cole back helps immensely also.

3 - Duggan plays a similar role across HB

4 - Burgiel's coming through, albeit more as a pacey rebounding half back player.

5 - Still have to fit Gov, Barrass, Bazzo, Jones, Rotham & HEdwards in somewhere(obviously not all players will fit in). Tell why TF WCE would prioritise another backman over Reid?

Even with all that, training up a rebounding half back flanker is one of the easier things to do. Just need someone with good positioning and an acceptable long kick and you're AFL quality already imo.

I know it's not all about disposals but you've got listed Evans (13 disposals, 4 goals), McMillan (12 disposals, 0 goals) as being the two players you can list of the supposedly "lots of Pioneers [who] did better" than Ried. I mean both of these players combined had less disposals than Reid had just by himself. I actually think Tobie Travaglia off the back flank (who'll be one to watch next year) and Oskar Smartt switching through midfield and forward flank and had 7 i50s were both better than McMillan.
