Over the past couple of weeks the talk of Carlton's backline being weak has hit extraordinary proportions, whilst you could make a strong case to see that is a major weakness, one thing that we have to remember is that we have lost our best two defenders!

What would happen to the Cats defense if they lost both Scarlett and Harley? Look what's happened to the Hawks, they lost Trent Croad and their backline has been bleeding goals all year, and that's just one player!

Both Jamma and Waite went down with injury at crucial points in the season. Waite was in All-Australian form before his knee injury and his work in the backline made him on of the elite defenders in the competition. Jamison consistently did a great job of shutting down the oppositions best forward and he suffered his injury as we were making a solid charge at the finals.

They will be back! They will retake their places in the backline and when the opposition struggle to put points on the board all of you who doubted our defense will have to eat a nice big piece of humble pie. Have some faith and some patience and all will be good again.

We are Carlton, **** the rest.:thumbsu:

You've hit the nail on the head.

We can see how much Bower has learnt because Jamma's absence has forced him to play on the best forwards.

I can't wait for next year, this year was not it, we lost too many close games that cost us 4th position, not to mention selling that game to the gold coast.

We deserve a clean shot at the finals next year, top 4 beckons.

They Know Were Coming was true - Next year, We Are Here.

No-i'm reminding the people that constantly snipe our backlines form that we are without the best two members of that defensive unit, a fair enough point i would've thought....

losing ur two best defenders is always going to make ur job that much tougher, but its not our backline thats the issue imo, cos when these players come back our backline will be pretty solid one

the issue for me is how we constantly leave the corridor open for teams to run though and hence score heavily against us, our midfield pressure is so poor and it just makes our job down back that much tougher, ratts needs to develop some game plans to adapt to situations, our game style is too predictable, some of those lions goals were training drills

we have come a long way since last yr but boy, tonight is evidence we have alot of holes in our team, we need to land a cpl of big names in trade week and need to recruit according to our needs in the draft, its an area we have been so poor in for the last 5 years, we desperately need another key forward and good clearance player, our backline has the potential to be elite

Our back line is in need of serious help. I have been watching these boards now for quite some time and there is always a lot of talk about how we need to acquire a CHF, FF etc.

I'm sorry but we have a few injuries down back and teams can just romp through. Look at the marks inside 50 last night. The Lions had a field day and they weren’t playing well until the last quarter.

I think our midfield and forwards are essentially OK. Bit of tweaking required, but on the right track. We need help down back.

Good to see some positivitey on the boards. Some very valids point have been rasied, our backline will definitely be a lot stronger next year. Hopefully we can draft one more. And someone to help out Fev would be nice too..
We really only need the backman though, if we can bring in a solid KPB then Waite can be moved down forward and we'll have a solid forward line with Waite and Fev, with Betts and Garlett/Yarran crumbing.

A sweeper kind of player would also be nice, roaming around the backline intercepting the opposition kicks and building attacks from the backline.
