Missed tackles and lack of tackles.

No run and spread.

Not running through the lines.

No run through the middle of the ground.

Lack of energy on the night.

Smashed at the stoppages and in particualr the centre bounces clearances.

Poor decision making and not moving the ball on quickly.

Poor forward structure.

No markng presence in the forward half.

Indecisive at the back.

Jenkins attempts at marks - he gets in the worng positions and his hands get into the worng position.

Not prepared ot take risks.

I can go on.

Sorry to intrude but I couldn't help but see the similarities of your gameplay to ours of a few years ago. Lots of pushing down back and forwards pushing right up the ground, Key forwards being played up high to and when on the rebound having no one in the forward 50 to kick it to. Much to the frustration of our supporters as the opposition got time to track back and lock up the open space.

Seemed like Tex was playing a sort of Buddy role up the ground when he's probably best suited to sitting in the forward arc. I was hoping the Crows would smash the scum and was frustrated to see that your options up forward were limited as there was no one there.

Wouldn't worry too much about it, your list has too much quality. Good luck with the rest of the season.

Sloane Ranger - cant blame selection - the rest -YES! I'm unsure if VB is even in our best 22.

Yep, OK fair enough - he's no Wayne Carey. A lot of the time he had two to deal with (Fletcher is everywhere!) but wheres our quick fleet footed rovers to scoop up the ball when it hits the ground?
How many times was Jenkins out marked? Do you remember any good delivery? On this point I accept times where his poor lead attributed. Still, ball hit the ground at half forward, Bombers out number and rebound. I ask - wheres Petrenko , Johncock etc?
More concerning than one guy not taking contested marks. Agree?

Hence I have never wanted a stadium in Adelaide with a roof. Note that no team since 2000 with their home ground as Docklands has won a flag.

Essendon was very good. Great pressure at the ball carrier and killed us in the centre clearances.

I suspect (or hope) we're still a few weeks away from being at optimum fitness. Across the board we didn't look able to play at the same pace as the Bombers apart from the first 10 minutes.

No doubt they are and they had more desire to win, were making very few mistakes and the ball seemed to like them as well.
Patty Ryder for me is a huge deal for Essendon and the fellas just not been on the park. His center square work is exceptional.

I always worry when we get a fast break like that against a good side, I'd almost prefer the other team to get the fast break. We seem to get complacent very quickly and before we know it the games long gone.

Anyway, I felt there was 3 major areas we needed to work on over the preseason:
1) Skills - they were below par last year and there has been no improvement this year.
2) Tackling - Again, last year our tackling was one of the worst in the league, in fact it has been for years and it hasn't improved one bit.
3) Forward structure - It needed to evolve to one without Tippett, it's still heavily reliant on a player like Tippett, only now we've got Walker and Jenkins who are lead up types, not pack marks. We just played into Essendons hands.

Or the fact your players are full of drugs and are roid heads and this has lead them to have much larger body sizes than the rest of the league and you can push smaller bodied players off the ball.
