Whats the difference between 1980 and 2007? is it worth getting excited over? we have made it to 12 possie numerous times ince 1980 so how are things different NOW?

Our team is full of exciting youngsters this time. Other times it was full of oldies just passing their peak or rejects who had their weaknesses worked out by oppositions soon after ;)

the difference is this is the first time in 30 years we are not looking for a quick fix.( all rejects from other clubs)
the rebuilding is being done with new foundations of good kids with good attitudes that are willing to learn.
this is the same way all good clubs are built, even our last golden era was built this way,mid 60s we went and got as many good kids as possible worked with them, added a few experinced players to fill gaps and the results followed.

as all tiges fans i hope this effort is half as good as that one.

The other thing that sometimes gets lost in the mix - in the mid 60s we were innovaters. We got out ahead of the game and made others catch up.

When Graham Richmond arrived and Len Smith was running the show they wanted to reinvent the game with tall running midfielders like Bourke and Clay as wingmen. That was revolutionary.

Len Smith's game plan was revolutionary.

When he fell ill and Tom Hafey took over it was with Smith as chairman of selectors and Hafey taking on the game plan and carrying on the plan.

The echo from then to now is that in Greg Miller we have an administrator who isn't simply watching his own back. We have a coach who is determined not to be a sheep and build a team that will be innovative.

All of our other coaches have looked at the current premiers (eg Brisbane) and said let's build a team like that. 5 years later you have a pale immitation of a team that plays a style of game 5-years out of date.

Frawley tried to build Brisbane Mk 2. Wallace is trying to build Richmond Mk 1.
