Since we are going to cull and trade quite a few players, I was wondering when the de-listings have to be submitted to the AFL?

When do trades begin?

My guess is that Wallace will get rid of the obviously 'not required' players this year, and do some more next year after a better look.

Trade week happens first. Afterall you might get lucky and trade a player that you would otherwise have delisted. Particularly if the player is a makeweight in a trade (all trades must include a player, can not be simply pick for pick - so a Biddiscombe can get traded if a club needs to aquire a pick to get Hilton for example).

Then delistments happen. Often they are announced before they need to be official, often they are announced before the Trade week. But officially they happen about a week before the draft.

Then the draft happens.

Following the draft there is another round of delistments but delistments at this time are very rare. From time to time a club might let one go so they can a pick in the Preseason draft.

The Preseason draft (which is a misleading name now that it is held in December) and the rookie draft then happen one after the other on the same day.

Then that is it until next year.
