Review When does the Penny drop for Sando

I have great inner belief but I never made it as an AFL coach.

It's an ingredient. The key one......?

have you ever applied for the job?
I think Sando has begun to listen too much to his rank and file and its tarnishing his ability to perform with out bailey his mentor...
another ingredient is confidence almost to arrogance...
and then likely communication skill to achieve buy-in from the rank and file.

fwiw ... I think Sando is having a second year from hell, the crows heirachy have let him down immensely...

in Sando we Trust!

I'm of the view that he needs more support in that box, and if we don't look at our mix in the box over the pre-season we are nuts.

Minus Bailey, it's a panel full of virtual novices.

I'm not in the AFL system. ..... plus all my self belief won't buy be AFL experience.

yeah, i do suppose it should be considered as contextual... belief within the framework of being selected as able to perform.

what else would be a more important element to a successful AFL coach?

cmon crows smash the tiges today!

yep exactly - every year at least one coach should be replaced... i suppose it was schwert this year!..but that was more forced change and not performance based... i would have shopped a new midfield coach this season... change keeps things on edge...

He should never admit that. Never.
i dont mind him admitting that.

what is more worrying is if he really believes he coached well when he didnt, and then not improving because of it.

there's a difference in believing you were outcoached in a game and believing the other guy is a better coach.

Listening to Bickley, who is one of our senior assistants, gives me zero faith in the assistant coaches.

Penny hasn't dropped this week, still structured like shit, and playing the same.

Agree on the assistants. Bad enough that Sando was slow on Deledio today but FFS, there are 5 other blokes in the box. WTF are they doing.

There are just such OBVIOUS flaws with our gameplan right now. I know it's tough to stop teams from isolating a loose man all game, but how about we actually TRY, rather than letting their best players run around on their own.

Reilly was damaging for us last year, so teams MADE HIM ACCOUNTABLE. Three weeks in a row there has been an obviously damaging player absolutely killing us. We have taken FOREVER to address it. It's either arrogant or stupid. When EVERYBODY can see it's a problem, yet we take half a game to even do anything about it. I could have told you BEFORE THE ****ING GAME they'd try and get Deledio loose and we should have a forward tag on him. I said at the first bloody bounce that he'd destroy us. I wasn't alone - we ALL saw it! So why did it take so long for the coaches to do anything about it?

Pushing our half forwards up to stoppages might be winning us clearances, but it's not winning us games. Our forward efficiency has dropped right off. It's clearly not the answer. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Picking guys who are out of form over and over again. Dropping guys for form for ONE WEEK IN WHICH THEY DON'T EVEN PLAY A GAME then bringing them right back in. I don't mind us resting young blokes. To be honest, I'm glad Crouch was spared from playing in this ****ing ridiculous game - it would have done nothing for his confidence. But bring in guys who are IN FORM. Not Mackay, who has been shit all year. Not Wright, who has been shit all year. Not Henderson for crying out loud.

When your gameplan is flat out wrong, it destroys the confidence of your players. So many of our GOOD players are going backwards. We KNOW Smith can do better. We KNOW Jenkins has looked better than this. What the hell happened to Jacobs? Part of this is their own fault, or due to injuries and whatnot. The main problem, however, is that we've coached them out of form.

Here's a novel idea. When there's a stoppage close to goal, have a guy on the line! WE NEVER DO IT! IT COSTS GOALS AND IT'S SO EASY TO FIX! Especially in the freaking wet. I learned this in under 8s. I watch the good teams in the AFL do it. We don't. It's basic.

Sando's gameplan has been worked out. We're refusing to fix simple problems. This year is a writeoff, and we've got bugger all at the end of the tunnel thanks to our dickhead administration.

How can I not feel like we're in serious shit?

Oh and why is our tackling STILL shitty. Every year we say we'll fix it. It is getting worse. Goalkicking is still a problem. Scoreboard pressure is crucial. We can't even kick straight at our own home ground!

These last 3 weeks have just been a nightmare.

Dittmar asked Sloane as a midfielder how he felt seeing Deledio free. He said the forwards needed to soak up the loose man. Dittmar pressed him and said why don't you man him up, he said he didn't make the moves and to ask the coaches.

Now listening to Sandos presser, seriously wtf. He knew he was a danger man and they gave it a lot of thought. No shit Sherlock, how about making a move. He lost me today.

Getting sick of Sando's empty platitudes. I can't bare to hear what a great bunch of guys the playing group is anymore.

Action, Sando. Its time to see some.

What he said is we would release a forward to be spare man at stoppages . We would win a clearance but this would just feed their spares in defence. That was probably a mistake.

Personally I didn't see the game but this is what sando said at presser

After being at the Richmond game at the G today at one of our rare Victorian games these days, Im ropable at how we keep getting beaten in similar ways this year!!

We are now back to the bad old days of 2010/11 of ridiculous amounts of panicked handballers to flat footed players or Jacobs, usually under more pressure than the person with the footy! We just don't have the skills to execute this style of footy, which is why the 'get it, and kick it 40m forwards' gameplan of last year, really suited this groups abilities. How many times today and this year, has a player been free and in space, yet cannot hit a leading target by foot from 30m, and either kick it 2m above their head, or a little worm burner along with ground!!

When the ball goes into our defence, the opposition defenders push up and fan out across the wing, with all 36 players in one half of the ground. We'll usually have more numbers in the last line of defence, however our defenders / midfields will usually panic and kick a scrubber hurried kick away from a pack , straight to the free opposition who then pin point a pass lace out to a free forward all by themselves. This tactic is KILLING us, and makes the game almost unwatchable and appear like a Mini League game, but we don't seem to have a counter to it

We often have extra numbers at the contest when the ball is in dispute, 3 Crows v 2 opposition, yet the opposition players will flick it out to extra carriers sitting 2-3 metres off the pack, who run away from it. This is usually due to poor tackling where we don't pin their arms which allows a handball out to space to their advantage.

If the ball is in our attack but gets cleared, the opposition usually rebounds with pace running away from our tired looking forwards / midfields and 'Pagan's Paddock' opens up with the ball entering their forward line with ease and space for easy foals.

In the event of a point, the opposition will often take it from full back to the wing without us even touching it. We don't seem to know how to setup to prevent this rebound anymore.

Or the classic of 2/3 Crows defenders up for a contest, no-one down, and the opposition small forwards marching into an easy goal. The North Melb game must have been a record for the number of goals kicked against us from 5-10m out!!

We also dont appear as fit as we used to be...I know Mackay and Wright were back in today, but both looked absolutely buggered before halftime. Yet they say Lyons needs a rest after being one of our best for the couple of weeks he was in??? Baffling selection process at moment.

Dangerfield or Sloane need to take over the captaincy from the last quarter of this season, to allow them to practice this before taking over officially in 2014.

The Triple M guys were flabbergasted that we even started the game without a tag on him, let alone left it like that after quarter time.

They were genuinely shocked and confused by it.
