When was the last time any of you actually thought Geelong might actually lose a game and look forward to the challenge? For me to be honest, was last season i think rd 16 when we played Collingwood. I looked forward to that match so much and really enjoyed watching it. Im not being a smart a$$ here or anything but that was honestly the last time i felt threatened from a club beating us. Even against Essendon i knew we would smash them. Even in the grand final, i seriously knew Port had ABSELOUTELY no chance. I never thought i would feel like this but i dont look forward to matches as much as i used to a couple of seasons ago because i know the result. Does that make me sound like a bad supporter? But saying that, Geelong may lose a match in a couple of weeks. What do you guys think? What was the last match you really wanted to see how Geelong would play?

Most games I think will be a challenge. I'm happy taking a slightly more pessimistic viewpoint, at the moment I just get rewarded walking away from every game. I can't help it either, I doubt and I doubt and I doubt. That's what almost a couple of decades following the club has done.

On the flipside, the last game I was fully confident in was the Qualifying Final against North. Since then I have been nervous each time.

To be honest, I think it is only now this season that I'm feeling positive and confident in every game.
Even late last year, I was nervous that this was the game we were going to throw it all away... not because I thought they weren't up to it, or not the best team in the comp, but because we've been there before, flying along, and something happens to ruin it all. Ever since I started following the Cats in the mid 80's, that's what's happened.

However, since they went the whole way last year, got the monkey off the back, and withstood some full-on challenges against some good teams, I'm now a lot more confident that this team will win each week.

We havent beaten the Hawks since 2005. I cant wait till we play them this year though.

Same, i cant wait to smash the absolut crap:D outta the hawks but we have to wait til rd 16 i think! Dam we will be 16-0 b4 we get a test... ot oh better put that lid back on:thumbsu:
oh how sweet it is to be a cat these dayz!
But in the short term i cant wait to play the saints full stength under the roof in rd 4. That might be a test!

the old enemy - I'll be worried about that one. And when we play the Saints, they seem to pull one over us from to time.

The last time I thought we were going to lose, and lose badly at that, was against the Eagles in 2005, the week after we squandered a 7 goal lead and lost by a point to Melbourne.

My fears were allayed in the first term as Nathan ran amok and we went on to win by the best part of 13 goals.

So at no point in 2006 you felt as though we were going to lose???

Now that is some sort of confidence you have there.....

Nice post Big Tazz. Put it this way, round 1 v Port I felt releif that we didn't drop the match where as I'd usually be overjoyed with an interstate victory. For all the hype about the Bombers I thought we'd win comfortably, similar to last year when we'd hold off their challenge and then run away. Just didn't expect it to be at the start of the 2nd term.

That's how I expect the Saints game to go. Can you imagine how pumped Chappy and the boys will be to crush the Saints. Can't wait.

Rosso, to use one of the most overused sayings in football, let's take it one week at a time. We have the Dees to get past this week. Then we can concentrate on the Saints. :)

In 2006, I kept trying to tell myself we'd turn things around the next week, but we very rarely did.

I'm an oldschool Cat - I always doubt before a match. Even now, against Melbourne at home with the unfurling of both the AFL and VFL Flags from last year... Even now there's a nagging doubt at the back of my mind.

Cat in Sydney. S & J. The bloke who used to call himself Years of Pain - I'm sure they understand what I'm saying, even if the younger Cat fans think I'm a w***er for doubting:D!

this weekend against Melbourne is the type of game we usually lose

nah, it's the sort of game we always lost in the past. Not these boys, different team altogether. Don't carry the old baggage (or the hand bags!).

Yes same. If you remember that victory in 2005, when we won against Port in Adelaide, where big Ottens kicked that crucial goal in the last quarter. I was so excited and was soo happy with the win, i was thinking about it for the whole weekend. Even though the game was close against round one i seriously didnt panick or nothing at all. But yes i cannot wait for the saints game.
