When will Ireland get test status?

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Maybe they can get ODI status one day.

And then England should be barred from poaching Irish players.

Imagine if they actually had their Irish players that England have stolen. Also they'll probably get test status when global warming makes the Irish climate conducive to cricket :p

HAha, it's true, they do get a lot of rain, similar to Manchester (or Queensland:p)

Typical knee-jerk reaction from BigFooty's posters. Good on them for having a massive win against Pakistan, they deserved it today. But tilll they get a proper first class system set up, nothing can happen.

The logical way is to give them ODI status first.

It is obviously a few decades away at best but remember Zimbawe and Bangladesh did get test statues due to upset victories in world cups.

It would only happen if either they form there own first class comp or hav an increased presence in the couty system.

Would like to see if they do get status, get all there irish players on the english team 2 play for them.

Mal Loye could qualify as an Irishman?

I believe he made his ODI debut against them, after playing for them previously in List A games. It woud be ironic if Ireland made it further than England after he switched to play international standrad cricket. :D

Well he couldn't as he only played in the Domestic cups for them, he was born in Northants and it's like Afridi playing for IReland last year, you have to distinguish between Ireland County Cricket team and Ireland ODI Cricket team. I do wish we could nick Niall O'Brien... A young, competent Keeper-Batsman is just what we need :( Oh and he's First choice i'd imagine at Northants now.

Kenya made the semi finals last world cup and the ICC didn't grant them test status.

What is Ireland population? The only reason Bangladesh was granted test status was to really home cricket to the 120million population of bangladesh.

Kenya population is only about 7-8 million? No money for cricket there!

Try 30-35 million

My mistake. Im tthinking of Ed Joyce, who did play for Ireland in the ICC Trophy to qualify for the World Cup. He now however, represents England. :)

Asa i have said a hundred time... it's to play Test Cricket, he wants to move up in the world, he certainly has the talent and is a fairly young man unfortunately Ireland can't offer Test Cricket atm but i'm sure if he goes on to get hundreds in Test Cricket than the Irish will be proud that one of their own has reached the pinnacle and may inspire other youngsters to achieve that but playing for Ireland, many Brits have previously played for England do it's nothing new.

.......I know what you said. I just corrected my original mistake because I was thinking of Mal Loye not Ed Joyce - and I know for a fact that Joyce did play for Ireland international team, not the county team, in the ICC Trophy, which was the qualfying route thorugh which Ireland qualified for the 2007 World Cup. Look at Joyce's cricinfo.com profile if you want. ;)

I dont think there is such thing as ODI status, if you look at the stats page for any players from Ireland, Canada, Bermuda etc. they have their stats from non World Cup matches counted in the ODI column. It would appear at a glance that any non World Cup match like Bermuda vs. USA is an official ODI.

Take a look at the big boy from Bermudas CricInfo page, he has played 18 ODI's and Bermuda is listed as his only represented team.
